rims or wheels?

What is the more accurate terminology? Rims? or Wheels?

Personally, I always refer to them as "wheels" which is what they are.

Whenever I see people use "rims", I don't know why, but it's sort of like a nails on a chalkboard reaction for me.

Rims are what you put on your BMX. Wheels would be correct...

I would like to add that your "wheels" are bad ass Todd...

actually both are correct......RIMs is more of an old school term, these days most people use the term WHEELS, what bugs me at times is when people use TIRES insted of wheels and they are really talking about wheels, and then they don't understand why epople are confused about what they are talking about.....lol

A rim is a component of a wheel. Early automotive wheels, bicycle wheels ,spoked motorcycle wheels and some truck wheels ( I'm sure there are others) are made up of several components usually the hub, the spokes and the rim, when assembled these components make up a wheel. One pice or mags are lacking the multiple components there fore technically do not have a rim.

The reason some of the OLD wheels were called MAGS was because they were made of MAGNESIUM......thus the term was born as a type of slang.

My dads old charger had a sweet set of mags on it before we restored it. Now it has wheels. Not rims.

I always felt it made more sense to say that a rim+tire made a wheel. So a wheel without a tire would be a rim lol

Wheel and rim can usually be used interchangeably.

IMHO I thing there should be a difference.

To me this is a rim.

To me a wheel is a rim with a tire mounted.

I'm surprised to learn that rim is old school. When I hear someone say rim, I think rappers and bling. I always say wheel.
