Help with Headlights

Hi everyone,

hope you are staying healthy. I have a 2013 camaro lt rs that came with stock HID headlights. Sadly both are kinda destroyed. One of them has a crack and the other is completely split. I had a few questions regarding them and if any one can help, Id really appreciate it

1.) can I use silicon to fix the cracked headlight? My bank account has already taken a big hit working on this project and Im looking for ways to bounce back in the green.

2.) If the stock were HID lights, can I even replace them with Halogen headlights or do I have to replace with HID lights. I have seen conflicting reports on this and I just want to make sure.

Thanks for your help and I hope everyone is staying healthy.

to replace HID (RS) headlights with non-RS (halogen) you will need a wiring harness kit, check with gen5diy.com

or you can replace them with aftermarket RS lights that are much cheaper and look the same. made by TYC I think

If that is your correct zip code you are in Wadsworth. I live in Wadsworth myself, as it would happen a coworker (not a member of this forum) got T-boned in his 2015 Rs about a week ago. He was talking about keeping it for parts as he is looking to buy another. I will ask him if he is interested in selling the lights if you are interested in buying.

IF you are good at wiring, you can switch to halogen by yourself.

You can seal with silicone or a good polyurethane.

You will get an error on the leveling system if you have it, without the
conversion harness, which is going to cost you the same as used capsules.
The harness kit runs anywhere from $280 to $349.

I'd repair them, or get a replacement where needed, used.

FYI a 2015 has different lights and will require more than just the headlight swap.

I don't think his model year has leveling systems, did they add that to the 5th gen refresh?

Are you talking about the HID headlight housing itself or just the bulbs? You can replace the bulbs pretty cheaply - I had one of the bulbs go out on my 2014 and picked up a set of Osram bulbs for about $50.

I don’t know why you’d want to go from HID to Halogen; a lot of people replace stock Halogen with LED. I did this with my fogs; big improvement.

It was in an accident and both headlights were kinda destroyed. Need assemblies for both sides. The cost of repair is slowly creeping up and I was just wondering if this was a viable option to cut down on my bill.
