wow man you guys are brutal, is this your form of compensating?
It was stated that it wasnt neccessary, just a cool feature to have.
What about the shift light, do you want someone to hold your hand for that too?
What about HUD, screw the HUD, why not have a pink unicorn come on through onstar and tell us what speed were going.
Give the guy a break

When you're full of win you don't have to look to do it right.

Besides, when it hits 37 degrees you get the Road Warning message that takes over the speedo for like 20 seconds. It may even be illegal to suddenly surprise you and take your speedometer away (which is what would happen on cold days with no analog.)
You can remove the "ICE POSSIBLE" message quickly by using the screen change toggle on the left. Give it one turn and it will bring you back to your normal screen immediately...

To the OP, yes I noticed when looking through some pictures or a video once and also wondered to myself why GM left the gear indicator spot open on the manual cars. Yeah I know it isn't needed, heck it is really pointless on the autos but if your going to have it, why not have it on every car.

My son-in-law has stick S10 pickup. It has an upshift light to aid when to shift. Maybe that would help you too !!!!

Good Question OP. I've questioned myself a couple of times on what gear. Plus, my truck is opposite than the Camaro with the reverse top and bottom. More difficult in the truck with less light conditions and I have almost 200,000 miles on the truck. It does get confusing with reverse between the two vehicles. I had a piece of junk sapparo some time back and it had an indicator light. That feature was on the cool factor. Never had a problem knowing what gear with a 4-speed, but 6-speed with a alot of power, get your point. Drove a buddy's standard on the column once with no gear pattern on the knob and I was having some grinding fun.

People are just joking and having fun. Nothing to get all riled up about.

If we had a sequential shift, it would definitely be a big plus. That said, I also wondered why they left that space empty on the manual and not the auto. Perhaps it's to save energy?

The OP didn't say he needed it, he said it would be cool. I agree. I don't need it either...I think it would be cool....

Now, if someone could back light the shift pattern, and then have the lighting move with the shifter, I think that'd look quite cool. Not quite digital, not quite useful to the driver, but just kinda cool looking.
