While shopping around found Z06
While shopping around at different dealers to see what they'd do on a 2010 Camaro and getting more and more pissed at how little the dealers actually know about the car and how some are trying to charge over MSRP I came across something that got me thinking. Not to mention all the unknowns on the Camaro have quite frankly turned me off as of late. I mean ABL?? Cyber Gray?? When they'll show up?????
I've found a 2006 Z06 Corvette (2LZ I think) with the chrome wheels and GPS navigation system installed. It only has 5100 miles on it. Yes that's not a typo, 5100 miles. Selling price $47,000. Velocity yellow in color. I mean sheesh, this car was around $82,000+ new. Now, with Camaros selling at MSRP for $36,000 for a 2SS/RS for 11K more I could get this Z06. That's the first issue. The second issue is that if this Z06 has depreciated $35,000 in 2 years (and only 5100 miles) what in the world is a Camaro's depreciation gonna be like???? I mean, are we gonna see 2SS/RS Camaros selling for $15,000 in a year with 10K miles on them? This Z06 has a clean bill of health, car fax etc. Never damaged what so ever. My buddy has an 08' Z06 and is really pushing me to get the car. I've never really been much of a Vette fan. Quite frankly I just feel like they're more of an old person's mid life crisis car, and I'm only 33. But for this price it's very tempting....... Thoughts?? |

That would be hard to pass up. I agree that paying MSRP for a Camaro is not the wisest financial decision. I have never done something like this before, but decided that I deserve it.

Well, the 'vette is going to bottom out on depreciation at a higher price point than the Camaro will.
I think the Camaro SS and the GTO are a good comparison to look at. In 2006, the MSRP on a GTO was $31,290. Currently, lightly used (12k-25k miles), these are listed for $15k-$20k. So, they are now going for roughly 50%-65% of their original MSRP after 3 years. If you don't need 4 seats and are flexible enough to get into and out of the 'vette on a daily basis, I'd say get the Corvette. |

even if it does have a clean bill of health you dont know how it was driven for those 5100 miles. Given a lot people generally run sports cars as fast and as hard as possible (especially something like the Z06), i would be really hesitant. That said its your money, do what you think is best.

Don't go for it.
If your worried about depreciation don't buy a new musclecar buy a restored 60's vette or camaro. 40-60 thousand and they can only go up in value. I wouldn't buy a current generation Vette anything, I think they're ugly But thats me... |

I bought a new Z06 a year ago ('08), but I want it to last, so it only has 1500 miles on it. The '06 has the same monster 505 horse 427 engine as the new ones- only issue with 06's is that sometimes the lamination on the roof comes loose- they fixed the problem during the year and dealers know how to deal with that. Also, you hope the car wasn't too badly abused (if it has performance modifications, odds are it HAS been). Of course they are factory race ready with good brakes, suspension. etc. And they are ungodly fast! Other than that, I say bargain the dealer down, get the Z06 AND then get a Camaro as a daily driver.
That's my plan at least. All these cars will depreciate- only antiques have a chance of going up. If you want a car that holds its value relatively well, you should look at a Toyota or Lexus. |

That's the main thing for me. Not sure if it's the economy, or just the avg depreciation of a Z06, but wow that's a good price. Gotta think on it to see if it's enough of a good deal to make me get over my Vette stigma. |

This 2006 is bone stock, no mods on the car as it sets and is spotless. Even the interior looks brand new, not a smudge or mark anywhere. I can't have another car as a daily driver. I already have 3 cars and a motorcycle as it is which quite frankly is too many. Decisions decisions. I'm starting to feel like a spoiled kid with money burning a whole in his pocket |

Did you drive the Z06? I mean on a freeway on-ramp or out on a lonely stretch of road when you can put it on the floorboard? That usually does the trick. But I really like the look of the new Corvettes. Didn't much like the last ones that had the oval taillights.
Camaro is also great looking and less money for a new car with great warranty, but even 6 speed SS will not perform close to the Z06. |

Z06 for sure but i have been hearing by many, even salesman that you can not live with the car on a day-day buisness, i was drooling over a silver Z06 at the dealership that was used and was a very good price, 59 Canadian and it was fully loaded. Anyways, if you can afford the difference in price, you cant go wrong, Z06 all the way
