Well..there are ways to increase the power, but the easiest way on a PD SC car is to put on a smaller pulley to turn the blower rotors faster. However, the LT's blower already is turning 20,000+ RPM stock, so it's already spinning really, really fast in stock form. Can't exactly turn them faster, and they didn't go with a larger blower.

Optimizations in the intake and exhaust pathways will help, as would injector changes, but I wouldn't expect more than 10 HP or so. So I'm going to back Hotlap and say 665 HP as a likely power figure if it's not the basic 650HP.

The CTS-V is rated at 640 and the vette at 650 with the same engine, what caused the difference?

Since the engine makes so much torque, it's powerband is really wide as it is. That's part of the advantage of such a torque-y engine. It's not a peaky NA inline 4.

there is a video somewhere that an engineer was surprised that they were given the a10 for the lt4 because of this very reason. I'll have to find it to remember what his after thoughts were after seeing the results.

That was Aaron Link who said that. I think it was a written interview, not a video - though there are so many references now, I could be mixing them up. He liked it after getting into the car and testing a bit. The auto version of the car has already impressed some manual-transmission enthusiasts within the engineers working on the car. That's saying something.

I can't wait to see and hear the ZL1 at the drag strip with the 10spd auto. Gonna be sweet sounding.

I still think that at the end of the day it will be a driver's race, car for car. Anyone who thinks the ZL1 will walk the HC or vice versa is delusional. Go to the drag strip and watch - you will see guys with a lot of HP running 13's in cars that SHOULD run 11s.

One of my first times at the drags way back when with an '87 Grand National was eye-opening. The GN stock was a solid high 13 sec car - I almost got waxed by a tweaked Lumina Minivan because I didn't launch right.

A freakin' Dustbuster minivan! And I ran a red-faced 15.XX run! I drove around him at the big end but it just proves that the Driver mod is the most important of all.

And both are awesome cars.

On stock tires the HC is woefully outgunned by the ZL1, but on DR's it will be a driver's race. Sure it's possible to botch the ZL1 launch, but all the same problems exist on the stock tired HC side and to a much greater extent. I'm talking auto vs auto or m6 vs m6 only.

Good catch. Maybe it's a TVs1900. They may not call it the LT4 then, but both the Zl1 and CTS-V had a LSA, although the lid was the major difference there.

So if the lid is different, how do we NOT know the internal specs/flow capacity are not different?

'Woefully outgunned'? Hardly. Yes, the HC is heavy and yes it has somwhat smaller tires. But it still is a damned quick car with at least 707 hp and has been proven to run low 11s on a track on stock tires and 10.8s on DRs. I do not see the ZL1 doing a whole lot better so 'woefully outgunned' is a mistaken way to think.

Yes, the SPECS on the ZL1 are impressive and it should do somewhat better if everything is equal driver-wise and same day, etc - I agree.

But there will be MANY ZL1 owners who will see HC taillights even though they think the HC is 'woefully outgunned'.

Never NEVER underestimate your competitor or his/her car, even if it is 100% stock.

With the obsession with roll racing with many HC owners, I'll bet it is far more likely they will be the ones seeing other car taillights on the strip. I'd bet the majority can not lay down a time faster than many of the media reviews. A car like that takes a tremendous amount of patience and practice to launch correctly. Even the SP/SRT cars are the same. One thing seems to be consistent with the 6th gen chassis, it is very easy to launch. Will that apply to the ZL1? We shall see. But I agree with everything else you stated.
