LT HUD Install / retrofit
MY FIRST real CAR MOD!!!! A little backstory. When I was looking for my next (current) car I drove a bunch of different makes and models but it came down to two cars. A clapped out 2014 Cadillac CTS and a 2014 camaro Lt. Personally I enjoyed the Camaro's chasse and price tag little more than the Cadillac's. Also the Camaro had a 100,000 less miles on it. So I made the decision and now I'm here. Although the Camaro is the nicest car I have ever owned and has plenty of power (for now). One thing stuck with me from the cts. It was the HUD.
I LOVED IT. Sure, It may be pointless when you have a tac less than 12" below your sight line but I LIKE IT. Now I thought I would have to go without. Until I took a stroll around this well of knowledge. I ordered the parts from the Bay of E and set some time aside. for the tear down I followed 2SSRS@Gen5diy's guide Here --> https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showt...ht=install+hud It worked like a champ for most steps. The steering wheel airbag removal was for the OG 5th gen wheel not the updated one. I just had to turn the wheel 180 degrees to access the spring clip holes. After almost 4 hours of me and my friend chipping away we got the dash out. https://imgur.com/gCLcrXm Now for the point of no return. I lined up the template I got from gen5diy and found that it was a bit small and not really 100% what I needed to cut. Ill make a more accurate template if you guys want one. Now to go past the point of no return. Now tbh I went a tad bit too tall in my cut but with the besel it is not noticeable. If you go the route where you get the parts separately and not from gen5diy you will need more of the same 7m screws the rest of the dash its held together with. Now you cant forget the dimmer/menu switch. now its the same thing as the hud hole. But you are on your own this time. Just leave a ledge and you should be fine. BAM! it fits perfectly. Thats it for now Ill keep cracking at it tomorow when the sun comes back. So putting back everything where it goes went well. I had some issues with the dash on the passenger side but that was total user error. the dash was being held up by the crash bar? that the air bag bolts to. It took me nearly 30min to figure out that problem. (not my proudest moment) Here is a pano after I seated the dash properly. After that road block I slapped everything back together and it was time to reconnect the battery and test all the new goods. Lights : Hud : Engine : Radio : Ope . So in my rush to complete the project i forgot to connect this bad boy. It managed to pin itself behind the dash some how. Now this bad boy right here supplies power to the radio and audio for all the clickers and hey dumbass noises. Pro Tip: If you want to mute your camaro dingers. remove this. Here is a night video of the hud. The next day after this video I went back in and retrieved our lost boy. Reconnected the connector and everything works properly now. Nice man!!! How long did it take you altogether? I did this 2 years ago and it took me right about 7 hours lol. The switch I cut a little wrong, didnt leave much of a ledge because I didnt know, so that was my only downside. But great job! It sure is a cool thing to have!

Very good job. When people first stated this mod it was taking almost the whole weekend. You've got it down to a reasonable time. Very well done.

I dont have a camaro yet, I would prefer cloth interior but really want the HUD too.
That first pic is kinda scary, do you think this is doable by a single person? How does it look with the non-hud windsheild? |

I’ve done it twice on two camaro’s i’ve Owned. First time I was overwhelmed. The second time was a piece of cake. It was worth it to me for the install. Looks like you are doing a good job

Better get some time set aside. The all-natural anti-traction dust will be falling soon.

I wasn't able to do it yesterday. Going to start right now, I'll report back with either glee or tears.
