Why would you buy a 2016 or newer when....

You can get a ZL1 for the same price with about 10-20k miles on it? Is there anything about a 2016 + besides being newer that you would want over a ZL1? I can't think of anything.

Would do the 5th gen ZL1 in a heartbeat! I drove a yellow 2017 SS rental in Oregon a few months back and even though it is a fun car, it did not feel as powerful as my own 5th gen SS. Probably due to being more refined and quieter... an illusion, but mine you can really feel. The 17 just glided. It was an automatic... perhaps that too contributed to the difference in feeling.

I personally like the body of the 5th gen better however from what understand the 6th gen pulls all over the 5th. Not sure about the zl1 though

Personally would not take any 6th Gen over a 5th gen; prefer the looks of the 5th (especially 2010-2013) and if I wanted better performance I'd add more mods to my SS or get another Corvette.

Stock for stock the Gen 6 SS does well with a Gen 5 ZL1 because of the weight advantage; but the LSA has bigger power potential for relatively easy money if you start modding. ($3-4K can get you to 700 hp)

ZL1 looks meaner and is more unique, as the SS is a much more common car.

Another factor, depreciation. The values of ZL1's are coming down hard as typical 3-6 year old cars do and will start to stabilize. I paid $34k for a 3k mile car ($25k less than original MSRP). The SS is still new and will continue to fall hard in the next few years.

My two cents based on driving the 2016-17 SS but not a ZL1. The new STOCK SS is much more ‘torquey’ than the STOCK 5th Gen. Prolly faster too with the right driver. Pretty easy to fix all that with basic mods and a tune. Little else impressed me with the 6th Gen though.

Given the beefy axles, suspension, diff, etc. of the ZL1, I’d have to go with that over a 6th Gen. A low mileage one would just be so much more car than a stock 6th Gen SS. IMO.

Yeah I rented a yellow 6th gen SS vert auto at the Orlando airport last winter (I think it was a '16) and while it was fast I remember being disappointed especially with the lack of engine and exhaust noise - it seemed really muted and harder than I expected to smoke the tires. Of course the vert auto would be the heaviest model but I still expected more from 455 hp and 455 torque. I believe that unlike the 5th gen, the auto and manual versions of the 6th gen have the same engine power. Also, I much prefer the styling of my 5th gen RS v. the 6th gen - Reminds me of how they screwed up the styling when they went from 1st gen to 2nd gen, they should have left it alone! LOL

I have zero interest in the 6th gen. I know its faster and more modern....all things it should be considering its the newer gen. I just cant get past the stying. The fact that its not very successful sales wise tells me my opinion is a common one.

I'd take a 5th ZL-1 all day long over a 6th SS.

Personally, I'd take a ZL1 all day long. Looks better. Much more power. I'm not really fond of the new body style..

13 ZL-1 like I should have bought. Had I waited a week or two I’d have that.

It's the styling for me. I thank my lucky stars I was able to pick up a new 5th gen while GM still made them. Same thing with the 4th gens. I hated the styling compared to the 3rd gen, but I wasn't able to get a brand new 3rd gen when they were new. However, I picked up a used 3rd gen GTA many years ago and have been slowly restoring it to perfection.

No way, no how. Until they get rid of that stupid seam on front of back wheels, so ill placed & obvious. At least they dropped the black plastic below the rear plate.
