The real value is undoubtedly the Mustang. The Challenger RT performance is not on par with the base GT or 1SS. The Scat Pack starts at $38k which is a good value, but at those prices you would have a premium GT or 2SS equipped much nicer overall.

I agree the Camaro is definitely higher than the competition, so Chevy really needs to show how much better the car is in every category compared to the competition, especially if the price goes up any. This leads me to believe we may have more trim/option packages than in the past if they want to stay price competitive.

Most people do not look at the trim its price, I live in a college area we have quite a few graduating girls from the area this year and a couple of guys. In the past 3 weeks there must be 20 new mustangs in my development alone. Most base models 1 or 2 GT's. One of the guys from the area is a salesmen at a local ford dealer. He said in March they had 40 mustangs on the lot, today there are only 2. With about 25 more on order with deposits. Another friend who owns a Chevy dealer told me they sold 2 since march. He still has a 13 ZL1 convertible leftover in the showroom.and a 2015 Z/28 in the back lot that's not moved since it was delivered in September

I don't disagree with your point, and I wasn't comparing the Camaro to anything else. I was pointing out that $40k gets you a bare bones Camaro with a V8. I should have said out the door price instead of MSRP, but my point stands.

Lol at someone paying $40k for a 1SS. One thing your forgetting when you do all those + $1k add ons is all the rebates, incentives and discounts that come off. My 1SS RS L99 was out the door for $30.5K. Know plenty of other guys who got 14-15 1SS cars for the same or LESS. MSRP is no where near $40k and neither is the out the door price. If you pay that much for a base SS then you paid too much.

Same could be said for the competition, which would end up being less because their starting price is lower.

Totally not disputing that fact. You can most surely get a Mustang or Challenger for less. Even right now if you compare a new 2015 Mustang vs a new 2014-2015 Camaro they will be about the same price which seems crazy but one reason its selling so well right now. A Quick search shows me you can get a new GT for $30k and GT premium for $35k with $5k discounts on a first year car. You don't normally see those kind of discounts on a brand new model but Ford really is aggressive with their pricing. For instance I bought a brand new GT deluxe with auto and shaker option in 08 for $20k.

"Big words coming from a big company. With the release of the 2016 Chevy Camaro planned in just a little over a month, Chevy is dishing out some strong disses in regards to the Camaro vs Mustang battle that has spanned, and will continue to span, for decades.

When Fox News asked GM’s VP of Global Product Development Mark Ruess if the new Camaro will outperform the new Mustang, he gave a pretty bold answer: “I”m confident. I’m very confident.”

This coming after Ruess drove both the 2015 Mustang and 2016 Camaro test mule back to back, giving his feedback on both in terms of power, handling, and efficiency. Though, he may be a little biased. And in regards to technology, Ruess admitted there will be “some really cool things in the Camaro, that are quite different than the Mailbu, [or the] CT6.” It all sounds pretty promising.

One of those new technologies will be the 6.2-liter LT1 V8 found in the current Corvette, which puts out more power than the Mustang GT (455 vs 435), and likely a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and a naturally-aspirated V6. Of course, none of that will be officially confirmed until the official release on May 16.

Now that the New York Auto Show is out of the way, all eyes in the automotive world are looking toward May 16th for the next big car reveal.

That’s when the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will make its debut at an event in Detroit’s Belle Isle Park, just up the river from General Motors headquarters.

Much about the car is still secret, but GM has begun trickling out a few details leading up to the unveiling.

It’ll be built on the platform also used for the Cadillac ATS Coupe, but with 70 percent unique parts. As was the case with the new Cadillac CT6 and Chevy Malibu, dropping pounds was a major goal for the Camaro.

GM VP of Global Product Development Mark Ruess told me at the New York Auto show that his team keeps all of the lessons learned developing in one car in mind when they work on the next, even if they’re not all that much alike, then builds on that knowledge to come up with new approaches.

“There are some really cool things in the Camaro, that are quite different than the Malibu, [or the] CT6,” he said.

A smart use of materials throughout the car, including aluminum for the dashboard frame and suspension, and unique composite drop links for the front stabilizer bar, are a couple of examples. The result being that the new Camaro will weigh at least 200 pounds less than the current one. That puts in at least on par with the 2015 Ford Mustang.

That probably goes for power, too. The Camaro will get a version of Chevy’s latest 6.2-liter LT1 V8 that’s currently under the hood of the Corvette Stingray, where it puts out up to 460 hp, compared to the Mustang’s 435 hp 5.0-liter V8. Expect turbocharged 4-cylinder and naturally aspirated V6 options, as well, although that's not been confirmed.

But will it all be enough to win back the pony car crown from the Mustang?

Since Ford has already shown its hand, I asked Ruess if he’s confident if the Camaro will be more efficient, faster, and better handling than the Mustang. He says and he said he personally drove them back to back last week.

“I’m confident. Very confident.”

Really interested to see what the Camaro looks like this generation. More importantly, I am interested in what the (potential) ZL-1 is compared to a (possible) GT 500. Last time around I got the Shelby, will be fun to compare the two should they both be made.
