There is no dipstick from the factory it’s a sealed transmission. There is a fill plug you have to see from under the car. JRE sells a dipstick mod for our cars so it could have a dipstick. I just have my local transmission Shop do it they charged $100 for labor and they changed the fluid and filter supplied.

For a 2011 that you bought used, probably time to change the trans fluid and filter.

But after that, there's really no need for a dipstick. If there are no leaks, the fluid level won't go down for years.

You have the 6L80E.
Contrary to the above, you don't need anything special to check it the way that GM intended.
There should be a sticker on the pan outlining this, but I'm trying my best to do it from memory.
Park on a perfectly level spot.
Warm up the car until the transmission fluid gets to 130 degrees F (and there's an upper threshold like 175).
There's a thing that people mistake for drain plug. Put a shallow container under that and crack open the drain plug looking thing. When you remove it, there should be a small, steady stream of tranny fluid. Put the plug back in it -- it's filled right.
No fluid? -- probably need to add some (to to fill plug)
Pouring out like crazy? -- probably overfilled.

This is right out of Chilton manual. Make sure it is level, difficult to do on jacks but maybe use a hardware store level if you're meticulous. Basically "fill to spill" using factory plugs. A dipstick is a nice convenience MOD. Wish they made one for my V6 car.

Pretty much nailed it. Except the trans fluid temperature needs to be between 86-122 F
Here’s the GM procedure, stolen from another thread. It is vital that the car is level!

Everyone do it the way you want. I just put the JRE dipstick in and no more problems reading the transmission fluid.

That was my point. It can be done but most people don’t have a garage with a lift or 4 ramps or 4 stands and a jack to level the car off the ground to get under the car. U can’t get under these car on the ground.

If you do change the fluid and filter get the filter made for the suv/trucks. I don’t have part number in me but hammdo has it in his build thread

ACDelco # 24236933 Professional Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter Kit

I installed it last year during a fluid change, pickup mouth is quite a bit larger than the OEM part. It comes with the seal too.
