get a v6 now or v8 later?

Hey guys, I'm very close to getting a camaro, but I was wandering what people would recommend. So after doing a bit of thinking, I realized that instead of buying a v6, if I wait like 2 or so years of work I might be able to afford a v8. Do you guys think it is worth waiting? And would a v8 be good for an everyday 40+ min commute overall, since it's going to be my everyday car? Or is the gas mileage gonna kill me?

thanks

really depends on what you want, I almost bought a v6 as soon as they came out out of desire for the car, but i knew i wanted the v8 so i waited till now till I could afford it and its going to be here next month, very glad i waited and it will be my everyday driver as well. That is a long commute but if it is mostly highway, 24/25 mpg for the v8 on the highway is pretty darn good. also a well equipped LT can be more expensive than the 1ss so price wise there may not be too much difference depending on what options you were looking for or can go without. If you have your mind set on a V8, I wouldn't settle for a V6 now. I'm happy with my V6, when I ask it for muscle it provides it. No gas mileage isn't gonna kill you. My V6 is only doing about 17.5 mpg, although mostly I do non-highway driving (the V8 is rated at 16mpg city).

Although I have thoughts about trading it in for a 2SS Convertible, when they become available, Its not because of performance of the car, I just miss my T-Tops!

I couldn't wait a year or to even order one, went out and found one nicely priced, had to drive a couple hours but believe me it's worth it no matter what kind you get. got a V6 and I flat out love this car.!!!

I could not wait for the convertible so I went ahead and got my V6 2LT/RS Camaro now and I will order the 2SS/RS convertible for the 2012 Camaro

Do you care a lot about having the biggest engine available?

Will you use the extra 100hp?

Do you plan on racing the car on a track?

Is it worth the extra two years to have a car that is faster?

Do you want the v8 because you care about beating other cars on the road or do you
want it so ppl don't think less of you for buying the v6?

Can you afford the insurance for a faster car?

Will your current car hold up for the next 2 years?

Do you want the fully loaded packages? (a 2lt and 1ss are very closely priced)

if this is your daily driver, is fuel economy important to you?

These are just a few questions that may help lead you to the best decision for yourself. It's your money, so buy what you will get he lost enjoyment out of (whether it is extra performance or 2 more years of drivig a Camaro)

hope this helps,
emin7

The fact that you asked that question makes me think you'd be better off waiting. Resale is still pretty strong though so you may be able to sell your v6 when your financial situation is better.

If your not going to Street Race, Drag Race, or feel bad when people say "Why didn't you get the SS" then get a V6 now and all those same people will still be jealous as hell.

I was having the same sort of issue. I decided to go with the V6 when the synergy SE came out, and I am very glad that I did. The V6 is a great motor and has a surprising amount of power. The car handles well and is a blast to drive. Dont wait, you can always trade up later!!

if you really want the V8 then maybe don't get a new car at all and just keep driving what you have or get a beater car and save that $500 or whatever a month and save it up for the purchase of the V8.

Wait for the car you really want. Don't buy now if you're going to wish you had waited...
