Would you buy an electric car?
Specifically would you buy a Chevy Volt? I like the idea of an electric car and am definately interested in the Volt.
It will be interesting to see where electric cars go in the next five years.

Never! Electric cars are a step back IMO, Hydrogen is the way of the future.
I don't know about any of you, but some of my best memories are long road trips with family and friends. Electric cars just don't have the range. Sure you can recharge them... but who wants to recharge every 200 miles or so... usually waiting up to 3 hours to get a full charge. |

I think it would make a good DD for shorter commutes. Gotta think about where those batteries go after they are dead ;(
Gotta be cheap enough though...

I would and I just might buy a Volt. My daily round trip is twenty five miles in stop and go traffic. It would ROCK!

No way, my daily commute is almost 40 miles and most can't go that far on a single charge. Maybe in 5 yrs when we can see how everything shakes out. But again, I really love my manual transmission and I envision an electric like a "fancy" golf cart. Plus, originally the Volt was going to cost over $40k...

I would love to know How much your electric bill goes up for charging your car each night (based off 12K miles a year average)
I would love to know how much it really "saves" you in money. Just like Hybrids-- I've did the math, and I've done some research--- and it is different for each vehicle.. But It takes several years (usually) to make up for the increase in price of the hybrid model over the gasoline only model. So for me it would never be a good buy--- because I trade in every 3 years or so. (I should really look into leasing)

The short answer for me is yes.
The long answer is maybe. Both me and my wife live close enough to our jobs that I would have to charge the Volt once every three days. My biggest concern however is how they handle in snow. I'm anxiously awaiting a bad weather test drive.

When the tech catches up the electric cars will perform better than today's super cars, of course when they are made in performance versions.

I'd probably buy it, but it would only serve as my daily commuter around the city, other than that and by the time I'd get out of the city the battery would probably go dead and I'd have to tow it home to get it recharged. So I may buy one, but I'll be waiting around for a used one. Honestly, I'd rather get the eco cruze
