Timing marks

Below is a picture of where I locked my flywheel prior to removing cam. I'm at the point of putting the timing chain back on and did not realize is was so far off. Is this close enough? If not what do I do at this point since the chain is off along with heads. Can I simply move the cam to where it lines up like the photo? To complicated things further the car is in gear with the battery disconnected. If I need to crank it to line things up better can I just hook the battery back up in the current state? I feel like the ECU is going to freak out. Thanks in advance I'm kicking myself for nit noticing this earlier....

To me, it looks like the cam timing mark is slightly to the left of 6', whereas the crank timing gear mark looks slightly right of 12'. I think you are OK. If you want to make sure, just throw the car in neutral, re-install the crankshaft bolt and run it in with your fingers. It'll allow you to turn the engine over with a ratchet. You can then make two revolutions of the crankshaft, and both timing marks should re-align precisely at 6 and 12.

Let us know how it goes.

I have the LS3 damper but I must need a other part to connect it properly. It's not required is it?

You definitely want it more lined up than that, I made sure mine was dead on, also recommend the LS2/dog bone dampener and new timing chain preferably the katech C5.R timing chain.

When I did mine it was a little off like yours and I could not get it to line up right on no matter what I did. Every time I put the chain on it moved ever so slightly like yours is. So I decided to let it go like it was and it was fine. So I don't know if yours will get any closer but I would try but if you can't I wouldn't stress about it.

That's about as close as I can get it. She is torqued down and staying that way. On another note how do I know for certain that I got the alignment hole and cam pin in place. I put a streight edge across the block and it cleared the chain. Is that all I need to check?

On all "V" engines, V6 V8 V10 etc. Look for the cylinder head that's further forward. That's number 1
