Is it true that the higher trims get more attention to detail or just luck of the draw?
The fit and finish on my 2022 Camaro was terrible. The clear coat was pretty much ruined by sitting at the rail yard. My past LT truck was subpar as well. My High Country, and past Denali and Cadillac V series were perfect. My thinking is that is more attention to a ZL1 since that is their current flagship Camaros. |

I worked for the UAW for one year in the tool room as a Tool & Die Maker. All I would hear from the guys that had been there for a while was "Don't work so hard you are making the rest of us look bad" That is the UAW mentality. I could tell you some stories about how the UAW protects the screw-offs and thieves.

I picked up a 2023 Rapid blue RS for my wife, there's trash in the paint and the sunroof seal is messed up. There was so much grease on the sunroof it was leaking onto the headliner. These are issues we've addressed to our dealer and they are being handled, but the OP is right, my 17 2SS didn't have these issues.

Mine is the first GM vehicle I have owned. I was actually expecting poor quality in terms of fit and finish and materials. Just based on GM's past reputation. I was actually pleasantly surprised (knock on wood). No glaring issues and the fit and finish is actually pretty good. The car feels solid overall. But I'm glad I got a '23 and not the last year. I figured quality would be worse on the last year due to parts shortages, strikes, worker malaise, etc.

And that is the problem with unions in general, unfortunately. This is just one of countless examples from many sectors, industrial and service alike that I personally observed (btw my 2018 2SS had small issues, too, but I got them fixed).
Initially, when wages are kept in the gutter and workers exploited to no end, unions tend to form and operate as a force for good... then once conditions normalize, they outlive their usefulness, the tide turns and the union itself becomes the problem it was meant to be an instrument of fighting against. The line is fine and the balance very difficult to maintain. I'm not some corporate nutjob, I do honestly sympathize with the working man and the need to survive, but this ultimately comes down to morality that has been all but eliminated from the corporate equation, both from management and the rank and file. Some (many) people try to hold the line in their own positions because they have integrity, but the system itself is broken. Also, I will never have any sympathy for demanding a 4-day work week for 5 days of pay, which, if I understood correctly, remains one of the union's demands.

American corporate culture has been deteriorating and getting more and more unhealthy over time. No loyalty between employees and employers, no pride in workmanship due to gig job mentality. Layoffs and job-hopping are unfortunately the new normal and it's bad for everyone.

I'm far from pro-union...asking for a 40% pay raise, while demanding to work less is something only a union would have the balls to ask for.
On the other hand, the pay of these CEO's is absolutely ridiculous and in no way commensurate with what they do. There is nothing these empty suits do to justify 10, 20, 30+ Million dollar a year salaries. I imagine that breeds contempt from the regular workers who are lucky to get any pay raise.

My 23 SS is fine, not perfection, but that wasn't my expectation. My Accords and Camrys have been much nicer in many ways, but they can't do what this can. My SS is perfect where it matters - performance.

It is all about taking pride in what you do, not how little work you can do for the highest wage. Unions are corrupt, all you have to do is Google unions and organized crime and you will get thousands and thousands of hits. My god look at the Teamsters!

Man, if my car comes in with huge gaps between panels, wrinkled leather seats, a busted sound system, and whatever else is wrong with yours I'm not signing for it, simple as that. As badly as I want this car, it's the most I'll have ever spent on a vehicle and it cant be anything less than perfect at delivery.

When I picked up my 23 in June, as we were pulling up to park my sales rep was waiting by the 23 VOM. She said take a look at a rail chip on the driver's door. She also said they ordered the VOM touch up days prior and they fixed it on the spot and gave me the touch up factory paint for free. QC begins at the factory, but it ends with the dealer. So, I'm very happy with my dealer.

Remember the standard for quality or the lack of "shit in shit out". Quality has to be built in, fixing after the fact is just a bandaid. It's what you don't see that scares the crap out of me.
