Wheel/Tire fitment questions.

I've been back several pages and can't find a definite answer to my question.

I have a '12 SS with 275/40/20's on 20x9 asanti abl-27 rear, and same but 245's on 20x8 front. Basically a factory setup with aftermarket wheels.

I'm wanting to get a set of 10.5" wide wheels on the rear to run some wider tires, hoping I can move the rears I have now up front without clearance issues.

Will the rears I have move up front with no issues?

What offset should I be looking for to run some 305 or 315/35/20's out back?

Thanks

A 20x9 with a 27 offset would have no issues going on front. If you going with a 10.5 on rear go with 35 offset

I'll verify the offset on the rears next time I have them off to clean the brembo off of them.

I found a pair of 10.5's the same model as mine, pretty sure 35mm offset was an option.

Thanks for the info!

Oops, just checked and it appears they are offered in 38mm offset which brings them inboard about 1/8" from 35mm. It's not a lot, but would it be enough to cause any problems?

It shouldn't. I had the 11 inch wide Z28 replicas on my Camaro at one time and they were a +43 with a 315/35 tire, no issues. That is a stock offset on the Z28's, 1LE's and ZL1's.

Update

So I finally got the rear wheels 20x10.5 (+38mm offset) and went with 315's to keep the diameter the same. They fit great on the back. Outer sidewall is 1/32-1/16" proud to the fender which I love, and plenty of space inboard.

However, moving the rears up front is presenting an issue. I half expected this. They are 20x9 with a +35mm offset 275/40/20, and the tire is barely binding on the front strut. Not really wanting to run a spacer since the sidewall now sits almost exactly as proud as the rear does. I've never been a fan of spacers on the front anyway.

Now I'm wondering how much clearance I'd gain with a set of coil overs?

I'm going to mess around with it more tomorrow and see what I can get figured out. Deeper down the rabbit hole we go.......

Great that you got the rears squared away! Nice. Can you get a pic of the front tire and where it is touching the strut? You just might have to use a very thin spacer for clearance. 5mm is about 1/4 inch. So if you can find a 2 or 3mm you should be alright. I think ZL1 ADDONS sells spacers that are "hub-centric" for the Camaro's.. I don't believe the coil overs will give you any more clearance since it is a side to side issue, not up and down.

I didn't have a lot of time to mess with it today, basically swapped the rears then tried to bolt a front on and it bound up, wouldn't rotate when I snugged the lugs down. I felt around and it seemed like the lower spring cup is what it's hitting the tire. Then had to go do the family thing for a while so I just threw the 245 back on it.

I have all day tomorrow, so I'll get it figured out for sure then either way. I bet I have a few washers I can do some mock-ups with and see what it needs.

So it's not the spring cup, the wheel is hitting the strut post itself. I found some .1875" (3/16") thick washers and bolted the wheel on with them, and the wheel clears with them on. So a 5mm (.196") spacer will clear them. I think I'm gonna order a set of 6mm (.236") spacers just to have a little extra room.

But that's not all...... While I had the wheel mocked up with the washers I rotated it and discovered that the 2nd valve stem (where my tpms sensor is) on the back side of the wheel hits the very top of the knuckle. But I can trim the corner off the knuckle, not hurt it structurally, and get the clearance I need. Will probably go ahead and have short tpms capable valve stems put in at that time as well.

So now my plan is to order the spacers, get it sitting on the wheels how I want it, measure for my lowering springs, order them, and while I have it all apart putting them on I'll trim the knuckle and then all should be right with the world.

This is how "simple" projects work for me. Nothing is ever bolt on and go. But I always manage to get it done one way or another.

Well if you need 5mm spacers, I have a set of 4 that I bought off of a forum member here, but never used them because I went with some wider wheels and didn't need them. I'll send them to you FREE if you want them. They are just sitting around in my parts room.. Just PM me your mailing address..

I appreciate the offer on that, I truly do. I ordered the spacers about an hour after my last post on this thread. They should be here by Monday, and we'll see how it all works out.
