Hmm...in 2005, I would've been 14. So a year older than Tac.

Funny how fast time moves...

I bought one in 2005, but what I really wanted was a Camaro!

The car I think is getting a lot of attention for 2 reasons:

1. It went away for so long, and the concept has been in magazines and newspapers for years... the fact that the prod is very close to the concept helps.

2. Transformers!
listen to this guy he hit it on the head.

Having owned both a 2005 Mustang and now a 2010 Camaro, I would say the excitement is pretty even.... Perhaps a bit more for the Mustang... I think I had more people take pictures or my Mustang than my Camaro...

What's a mustang?

Oh yeah, those things my Camaro eats for breakfast on the way to work?

I was fortunate enough to build a new race car in 2005. I purchased a new Mustang in December of 04 and proceeded to tear it apart for the following season. The picture here was taken in March of 05 by Steve Turner of 5.0 Mustang Magazine. It was the september cover for the magazine.

The re introduction of the Mustang was a big deal but not as big as the Camaro. Since the Mustang was still in production it didn't have the anticipation that the Camaro did.

The frenzy to have the fastest, most power, best air intake, and on and on are 10 times what the Mustang was at that time. The sport compact phase had lost all it's air and there were a lot of people wanting to jump into whatever was new and going to bring in the sales.

The Chevy guys have been lusting for a car like this for a long time. The design of the previous F Body (engine under the cowl) turned a lot of people off. It was a huge pain to modify.

Yes the re introduction of the Camaro surpassed the activity of the 2005 Mustang.

Robin

Yes, imagine this website but dedicated to Mustangs. It was exactly the same and fans are still obsessive / passionate about it!

WOW... Very nice Mustang!

I think part of it is the S197 really nailed the "Retro" make over... while the Charger and GTO name plates didn't really seem to be have a retro look that people thought they should have had...

In 2005, when I got to see the first Mustang, I really liked the front end, but that was it. It was kinda like...... WOW....... Ohhhh.

For the Camaro, I was wow'd from the front to the back........ Wow..... WOW........ W O W............

FWIW, the Challenger had me pretty WOW'd too. As far as styling goes, the Camaro has real flares and body lines while the Challenger only has body lines. When it comes to body style, the Camaro is the best looking car on the street right now IMHO.

Just my .02

This is from personal experience... when I first drove the 2005 Mustang, I was excited to get upgraded for the rental, but was a little dissapointed in the handling... but the engine sound was really nice and the inside felt like a cockpit... however the power for the base was disappointing.

I think Chevy learned form this and built the perfect entry level sports coupe!

That does not mean that Ford wont come back, I hear the new GT is gonna have over 500 hp!

Simple answer for me ... Mustang did a great job bringing retro and modern together ... Camaro did it better.

Real problem is how will they top this??

Same excitement. Unless you are under the age of 14 then the transformer wins hands down. My 7 year old son agrees

Then barely 4 months after its release and I was thinking "enough already!!!"

But my question is: did the 2005 Mustang garner the same attention that the Camaro is getting now, or was it more of a muted excitement like the Hyundai Genesis coupe (where people thought "cool" rather than "wow") ??
No!
