Detroit Free Press--4/18--Chevy Camaro overtakes rival Ford Mustang
Spring has arrived, and so have the pony car wars.
But the big question this year is whether anybody can catch up with the Chevy Camaro. Last year, Camaro outsold Mustang for the first time since 1985. Through March, Camaro has sold 19,972 cars to Mustang's 15,419. The Dodge Challenger is gaining steam but still a distant third, with 9,742 sales. "The reason we continue to outsell Mustang is that we are still a very fresh model in the marketplace," said John Fitzpatrick, marketing manager for Chevrolet performance cars. "I think customers are looking at the car and the distinct look that the Camaro has ... as well as the performance, the efficiency and really the value." General Motors said it is increasing the power of its V6 Camaro by 11 to 323 horsepower by summer. Ford said the limited production 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 -- the first to carry the Boss 302 designation since 1970 -- is on its way to dealers across the nation. Full Story here: http://www.freep.com/article/2011041...l-Ford-Mustang We've all known this already, ....nice that the newspapers keep reporting it!! Becky |

It was ninety nine cents!

I was out on the first real sunny day we've had in NY last week. I saw about 10 Mustangs. Of that 10 only one really struck my eye. It was a 4 eye 2011 silver with black stripes. Had a wicked exhaust that the owner made sure to let me here when he passed me (going the other direction)
The other 9 stangs I saw were ho-hum. They are like honda civics around here for the most part. Very common. I saw 3 Challengers. All R/T's I saw one 5th Gen. I was driving it. Still pretty uncommon in my area. Might see one or two for every 10 Stangs or Chally's Glad to have helped contribute to those numbers this year! I don't think the Boss is going to make a huge impact because of the price. It depends on what people are looking for. A nice barely used Shelby can be had for what the Boss will cost. Then again, there certainly are people who want a "track" car. I'm interested to see how the Ford/Chevy war stacks up once we get the ZL1 and Z28 out. At the end of the day the regular coupes/verts and V6 models will probably be the bread and butter of sales for both companies, and thus far we are outselling them in that category! *Cheer*

Was out for a 150 round trip Sunday and saw a unknown number of Stang's. 2 Challangers and 1 other Gen5 besides mine.
Stopped to get gas on the way back and drew a crowd.

The Camaro population this last weekend in AZ grew......then shrunk...I did notice though on I-10 a lack of stangs and Challangers....mmmm I wonder why...

Yeah, I don't doubt the sales figures and I'm super glad that we're kicking Ford and Dodge's butts
However, I don't EVER see any 5th gens out here. I see like 20 Mustangs every time I go somewhere. Usually half of these are the new body style and half are either the previous gen or the one before that even. Mustangs are so common that yeah, they might as well be Civics!

Mustangs are ugly. They have looked the same for what feels like the last 20 years.

Competition is great, happy to see all 3 selling well. Imo there is a chance that this kind of v8 war may come to an end very soon with where gas prices are headed and the new "cafe" standards coming into effect in the next few years. I'm hopeful the big 3 will simply find ways to keep the power and increase fuel economy. In the meantime congrats to GM!
