SS Summer Only Tires

Hi there, I'm interested in getting the SS but worried about the summer only tires living in Seattle and rain/light snow. Is it that big of a deal, or am I just over thinking it? If it is a thing, would the dealer give me all season instead? I won't be using the car on a track.

Thanks!

It snowed like once last year, I'm less worried about that. Plus I don't want to spend the extra money on snow tires, a new car, and find space in my small garage to fit them all. :(

Summer tires on wet surfaces isn't so bad. There's a slightly increased risk of hydroplaning, especially with deeper water.

However, cold summer tires suck. They get hard, they don't flex as much, and, if cold enough, they could even be damaged if driven on.

Great info to know. While it doesn't snow much, it gets very cold (sub 20's easy).

This brings me back to the all seasons, any reason why the dealer wouldn't be able to provide those to me? I feel like they would be cheaper than the summer only tires...

There is.

Thet don't come with them on from the factory.

Yup, it's that simple.

But!

You can talk to your dealer, and I'm sure if you bought a set, of say Conti DWS or Mich Pilot Sport A/S+ they would be happy to swap them onto your new car... but not for free.

You don't want Summer Tires if your thinking to use in ANY snow or fridge temps

Use something like Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 as your winter tires. Being one of the best 'all seasons' out there, you just do NOT want to be sharing the road with others when it's below 40 and raining on Summers.

So the solution is to buy all season tires, mount them and store the summer ones? I seriously never see myself usuing the summer ones, is it better to sell them?

Sorry for all the questions, I've never had this issue before.

Don't you want the best performance for your car when the conditions are right? (When it's warm?)

All seasons are a Band-Aid to get you through the "hard times".

Buying a new pair of 18" snow tires AND 18" rims to match is going to be expensive.

I understand you get better performance with 18" snow tires in the winter because the smaller tire cuts thru the snow.

For my new 2016 Camaro, Can I just buy a new pair of 20" snow tires and take off the 20" all seasons for the upcoming winter?

Will 20" snow tires be fine in the snow?

What do you guys think?

Nice explanation after that link.

I'm not excited about having a second set of wheels and tires (the wife will really love it) but I see the logic.

How bad are summer tires in spring/summer/fall rain? We don't have much of a summer in Seattle, 2-4 weeks in August.
