Engine Heat
Dear Camaro friends,
Lately, a very strange thing has been happening to my 2010 SS. The heat gauge has been playing around not staying stable between the 1/4 and 1/2 mark as it used to be before. As you can see in the video below, it goes from the 1/2 mark all the way up to the 3/4 mark in traffic. It is only when I accelerate that the needle drops back to its normal position. Now a few days ago, the engine started to cut off at around 4K RPM on hills and WOT. This happened several times. I have taken it to the only local dealership twice but they haven't sensed anything wrong with the car . The radiator fans stay on for about 5-7 minutes after I shut off the car. Just today in traffic, the needle hit the red mark and a message appeared stating that it had cut off the A/C due to engine overheat. Has this happened to any of you? Do you guys know any solution for it? I don't want to take it to a random mechanic here in Lebanon because I know they will screw up my car. The only people I trust are the dealership, but they haven't found anything yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Go check the fluid level in the coolant reservoir.

The thermostat could be sticking. That would be the next place I would check. It's very cheap and easy to do.

When the fans are on, does the air feel warm. If you check and the air is cool, that means the coolant is not circulating.

I would guess at thermostat as a starting place too.

Check coolant/water level, then check to make sure the fans function normally on their own, then if everything checks out replace thermostat.
Don't let you car get that hot, if it's going over the halfway mark I'd turn on the heater... if it's getting all the way to the redline you may have already ****ed up your engine, and it won't be under warranty because it would have been your fault. Have a chemical block test done to make sure you didn't **** it up already. Don't drive an overheating car... EVER!!! |

Thank you guys for your responses! I had already suggested that the thermostat must be replaced on my previous visits to the dealership but it appeared that it was functioning correctly. Yesterday I took it again to the dealership and they replaced the thermostat. The car drives like new! Thanks everyone for the help!
