Wouldn't it be easier for GM just to fully paint these wheels from the factory when they are produced? It would save both their workers time and also prevent customer dissatisfaction getting it right the first time.

You would think that'd be the best approach. Seems GM's stance is 'tough luck, you must have done something to them'. I was told it was 'chemical staining' and they wouldn't cover it. Funny how they're only 'stained' in the lug holes and the other hard to spray areas...

Well. I stopped in to th Chevy dealer that originally looked and took pictures of my wheel. I was told that the response they got back from th GM rep was that it looked like rock chips. If had pictures up you would vry visibly be able to tell its not rock chips. It's simply peeling away from a poor paint job. He did say that the GM rep wants to llok at my wheels though because it was hard to tell from the picks. So that is the next step. Hopefully I will be off work when that happens. When she sees it in person I am sure she will agree. Even the service rep agreed with me.

I been having the same problem with the finish wearing off, GM replaced 2 wheels and basically said that was it, one of the replacement wheels are doing the same thing. I had a dealer try to tell me it was imbedded brake dust, the car is not a daily driver and the wheels are cleaned weekly with soap and water.

I decided to have the wheels refinished and enjoy life, also going to buy a good quality set of non factory wheels to run most of the time, it sucks that a 1100 dollar wheel has such a poor finish but that is how GM wants to represent itself.

No need to comment William, been there and done that, I'm done with trying to convince GM to do the right thing. A small refresher for William you set up an appointment with a dealer to look at the wheel and when I took the car to the dealer the service manager was off and they had no idea what I was there for, a waisted day off from work, I took off so I could wash the wheels so they could easily be inspected, service advisor wanted me to reschedule to check my "tires" totally clueless.

2013 with 6000 miles and my wheels started to look like someone was peeling the paint off a house. dealer " fixed " them with a paint job but can clearly see no prep work was done and now they are flat black. Guess after hearing everyone elses stories ill just get mine powder coated or hydrodipped. sucks GM wont warranty such an expensive part of the car

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but has anyone tried painting the inside barrel your self? I understand that Dupli-color Universal Black BUN0104 is a good match. I'm seriously considering it, since I got a powder coating quote for $400, plus the cost of removing and reinstalling the tires.

So, any pics of how it turned out would be appreciated...

I would recommend getting them powder coated, it's a finish like no other IMO.

I personally have the 5 spokes and am going to get them finished with chrome.

I will add that powder coating Forged wheels is not a good idea unless special low temp curing is used. High temp will add a ageing heat cycle to them and make them brittle.
