Syncing iPhone contacts in 2012 Camaro

I'm not sure what happened, but one day my iPhone 8 stopped automatically connecting to my 2012 Camaro radio after getting in. After it happened a couple times, I decided to remove the Bluetooth settings on my iPhone and from the radio.

I went through the usual pairing process, and everything seems fine except my contacts are not being read. If I get a phone call, the contact name doesn't show up on the radio display; it only shows the number.

I think I've tried everything at this point. Re-pairing many times, restarting the phone, etc. What could be the problem?

Issue with Mylink, go to the dealership, ask them to perform a firmware update on your stereo. That usually does the trick.

I read about that, but I don't have a myLink system; it's the older style without the touch screen. Is it still something a dealer would have to handle?

Yep, same deal! I had a 2010, same stereo as yours, have them update the firmware.

I took it into the dealership yesterday. They said there weren't any software updates. And a tech there tried pairing his phone and it did the same thing, so I know it's not something specific to my phone. Unless it's an iPhone-specific issue.

I had something similar happen to me a year ago when I got my iPhone X. I can pair but I can't stream music. Never had the contact name show up before, only the number.

Depends if the firmware has functioning SBC codec. SBC is cheap and VERY subpar quality.

Interesting. Any ideas of what I can do? I have a warranty on it still. Is it fixable?

How long did you have the iPhone before the problem started?

Update: After talking at great lengths to both Apple and a car dealership, this is the scoop.

It turns out that an iOS update put out last year isn’t compatible with the 2012 head unit. And GM considers the 2012 head unit obsolete and won’t push any more fimware updates.
