TC/Stabilitrac has saved my axx too many times to mention.
The only time I turn mine off is when I'm racing or practicing racing (doing launches, etc). Otherwise, I need it to keep me out of trouble. I think a manual would be easier to deal with TC off. The automatic hits hard and you don't always know what gear the tranny is going to drop down to. Having the TC/Stabilitrac can be a life saver. |

I just hope that those who are unfamiliar with the "nannies", (an un-fair derogatory term for important safety features that invites their non-use), don't disable them in an attempt for more "performance" pre-maturely...
....The car is plently fast and as is...get familiar with that first, then ease into disabling traction control and stabilitrac...good luck and be safe please. |

Can anyone confirm or deny that when the nannies are on the output of the engine is reduced?

I don't believe it effects output of the engine. With the competitive mode on in my car, I can launch and take turns much better. IMO.

lol, where do you guys come up this stuff? the "nannies" are passive systems. they only come on in certain situations. the traction control, for example, only comes on when a wheel looses traction. all other times it is off. the stabiltract only comes on when, to make it simple, your car is moving in a direction different from which the wheels are pointing. when you hold the button in you aren't turning the "nannies" off, as they are off 99.9999% of the time anyway. what your doing is disabling them where they will not come on in situations where they otherwise would. it's no different than ABS. 99.99999% of the time it will never come on and will not effect the performance of your car. that's what makes it so laughable to hear how people hop in their car and immediately turn them off. under normal driving they aren't going to come on, and will have no effect whatsoever on your car. the only real reason to turn them off is for the purpose of spinning wheels, drifting, or doing burnouts. if your not going to do those things, or drive in some other reckless fashion, then they'll never come on and you car wont drive any differently. I highly recommend some of you guys actually read up on how these things work and precisely what they do before you go and disable them thinking they're somehow holding your car back and you'll gain HP and handling by disabling them |

If stabilitrack is activating in your normal driving, you're probably going too fast. The only time I've ever had stabilitrack activate was when I was taking a turn fairly spirited (as I tend to do when I'm driving the camaro) except this time there were some rocks on the road that I didn't see until it was too late. I felt the car heading straight for the ditch, understeering quite a bit on the rocks. I was on the brakes which activated ABS to let me keep my directional control but i was still heading towards the ditch, then I saw the flashing orange lights on the dash and felt the car pull back the way the wheel was turned rather violently. I'm confident if I had the stabilitrack turned off, I would have ended up in the ditch. I guess I just don't drive fast enough on the street to activate it. I've activated traction control a few times when I didn't think it was necessary but its not like It hurt anything. Of course at the track I turn it off. That's the time when it does more harm than good, but on the street I prefer to keep it on. Just my 2 cents.

I only turn traction control off when I'm in mine. I just feel more comfortable with it off.

Fbodfather wrote in an old thread: I'm not saying this to belittle you.....
...but if you think the car 'runs like crap' with it on - I'm thinking that you're breaking the rear tires loose with regularity - or there's something wrong with your traction control system. I'm sure you saw the 'accident' at the Press event at V.I.R. -- You may have respect for the car - but there's a reason why they call it an 'accident' -- and for the life of me I don't understand why anyone would turn the traction control off on public roads. In the past two weeks I can think of three other accidents (this is the fourth) ON THIS SITE -- that occurred in part because the traction control was switched off. Tidbit: Those of us assigned ZL1 Captured Test Fleet vehicles have been told "don't even THINK about it" (I shall now turn to page vii in our ZL1 handout that we were given and had to sign that we'd read it -- and we can read in unison: "..the ZL1 is a very powerful vehicle. Traction Control and Stability Control MUST be active at all times. Failure to comply with this directive will result in revoked driving privileges and up to and including Termination....") (underline put there by GM -- not me...) Wellalrightythen! We received similar instructions with other CTF Camaros and Corvettes --- now - I think that perhaps the people who made this proclamation are quite familiar with Camaro - and they're making this rule for a reason. I guess what I'd say to you is this: 1. It's your car - you are free to do as you see fit. 2. If you DO wreck your Camaro - it's another in the junk yard - and insurance rates will continue to climb. Don't believe me? Go look at the sales rates of Muscle cars from 1966 to 1969 - and watch as they drop off a cliff in late 1969 and 1970--that happened for a reason: Most accidents happened at high rates of speed and were quite --how shall we put this? "spectacular?" -- those of us who were around will tell you that some insurance costs were very nearly equal to the base price of the car PER YEAR by 1970! Do we really want to go thru that again? 3. I do hope that you and your loved ones and innocent ones are not injured if you do, indeed have an accident.....but if you hit me and I find out that you disabled your traction control - I'm not going to be a bit happy - and if I'm injured, I might consider coming after you legally. 4. Please-- I'm begging you: don't talk about shutting it off on this or any other site - it only encourages others - and that's not a good thing....... Again - I'm not wanting to belittle you - but I've seen too many people killed in accidents where Stability control or seatbelts may have saved lives had people just used them. |

I guess I'm just old school. I have never had a car drive for me or think for me. All my other Camaro's haven't had it. I have always had to drive my car by myself without help. I like having control of my car and turn it off every time I get in it. But as for some young kids or even people that don't have any driving skills it good for them. Not everyone can drive a car with that kind of horsepower without help. This is a way all drivers can drive fast cars.
