Cam Vs. ECS Centri.
Hey guys I need some help here. I have had my eye set on the ECS setup for a while, but I am getting impatient and really want to do an upgrade before C5Fest.
Financially and logistically I will not be able to go with the ECS kit until the week after Camaro Fest. So I was thinking this morning I could probably swing a cam and header install prior to fest. My concerns are which is more likely to have better reliability? With the ECS kit I would not be pusing it over 600hp, also the car is not a daily driver, but I still would rather not be changing valve springs every 30-50k miles. Also this will be a one or the other situation, I will not be doing both a cam and supercharger for the simple fact that we use the Camaro for both fun and long road trips regularly and I feel both would decrease the reliability too much. What are your guys' recommendations, should I just hold off on the cam have fun in the stock and M6 street tire class at fest or try and bump up the stakes a little bit. Thanks in advance.

save the money and do the ECS. if you don't want the cam when u put the ECS on, you will have to pull it out. that seams like a waste of funds. if you dont mind leaving the cam in there, them i would choose a blower cam that way you are ready to go when you put the ECS in. headers are good ether direction so i would do that for sure

be patient, there isn't any special reward for having a blower camaro fest vs. not. So why not get what you really want.

Or get a couple of turbos, skip the cam, the LTs, and the centrifugal. The TTs are less stress on the engine than the centrifugal. The new kits seem pretty amazing and also seem to be a reasonable DIY.

I have both... Tsp 231/236 cam and ecs blower. 650rwhp without any meth. It's awesome and fast. I drive it to Miami all the time and will be taking it on a 12 hour trip in may to va so it's pretty damn reliable. I did my cam first and made 470rwhp. Drivability wasn't much fun at low rpms honestly but I wanted that gargle lope that not many have. Adding the blower 6 months later made the car harder to daily drive but it is easily driven daily. Low rpms drive just like before the blower install and I've been in stock cammed cars and you lose zero drivability with the blower only. Really just depends on what you want your power level to be at. I gotta ask tho. If you aren't driving it daily then why even be concerned with valve springs. Be hard to put 40k miles on a car unless u drive it all the time.
Blower is the best bang for your buck power wise. And don't let people fool you, turbos and chargers all stress the engine. |

I'm with everyone else. Don't worry about what you can get done before Camaro5 fest. No one there is supplying you with funds to meet your goals...if you want the ECS kit, save up for it and go for that.
