Interesting. I've never heard of that one.

Atlanta seems to be the hotbed for laser manufacturing. Dragoneye is made there as well.

Let's not second guess the officer's "motives"....he's doing his job...which is NOT easy.

Denver Taco admits his luck "may be running out".
Let's face it...we didn't buy our cars to drive like gramps...we like to punch it on occasion.

I myself like to punch it on roundabouts. Den Taco was in a roundabout.
We have a gazillion here and it's the primary reason my rims have rash.

I’m not second guessing his motives but I’m calling him out on his actions. He wasn’t doing his job because he was conducting an illegal traffic stop, again he probably has a history of doing this and nothing is done about it. It’s cops like him who become “ Brady cops” and cause issues for the cops doing there job with integrity. You’re right it’s not an easy job I just celebrated 36 years on July 1st but law enforcement gets a bad image from the knuckle heads who do stupid stuff

Um..."illegal traffic stop"? I'm not in the business but I don't think there is such a thing and you keep using that word in every post......"illegal". Tell me, exactly what law did the officer break pulling him over?

Don't get me wrong I don't like being pulled over for nothing either and it has happened to me before.

In addition it's just part of the game. Don't hate the player. LEO's do these fishing experiments all the time in all types of circumstances.

Now I get closer to him, I am 40 in a 35, so technically, yes, speeding, I am in the right lane, he is in the left, approaching turnabout, I'm turning right, slow to check for oncoming traffic, drop it in 2nd, make a fairly mild turn (but this is a 1LE so...) now onto straight, get up to 40 MPH (according to PDR), and he lights me up. Says he got me going 51 using LiDAR.

I'm not an expert, but I thought that LiDAR was really needed to be aimed really well, like they look through a reticle and all that jazz. I do know Ka band is on during driving for a lot of the non trooper, local city police cars, maybe Sheriffs too.

I have an Escort MAX 2 with laser band turned on, never alerted.

I was of course very compliant and nice, When the officer told me he got me going 51, I mentioned I have a dash cam and I got up to 40.

takes my papers, goes back to his car for 3 minutes, comes back and tells me the standard, please slow down.

I gotta say, I think he just didn't like that I took that turn faster than he liked and I think he was just fishing, otherwise, 51 in a 35 is an easy ticket.
I would have gladly accepted the ticket and then went to court with evidence showing that the asshole was lying.

Agree.. but the LEO shouldn't lie about how the driver was caught and about what the driver was doing. Pulling someone over for a legit reason (and I believe that was the case in this situation) is fine, but lying is crossing the line IMO. I wonder what would have happened had the OP not mentioned the PDR with speed recorded on it.....

But the last time I was stopped it was for a "license check". It happened to be on St Patty's day with bars in between the two "license checkpoints".

Which is the same reason they are making stops early on a Sunday morning.

IIRC, the OP mentioned it being 6AM before he edited his post.

Courts ruled the police can lie sometimes — they can use any excuse if they feel it is necessary...

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...ford/82512892/

https://www.innocenceproject.org/pre...-police-lying/

Including traffic stops if they suspect wrongdoing or suspect ‘anything’...

So, technically they can stop you on a ‘gut’ feeling. Just know your 4th, 5th, and 6th amendment rights and be courteous, respectful, and honest as YOU cannot lie to the police.

A VAST majority of officers are truly honest and great people (I know many) but the ones who are not give the impression (at least by the press) all are this way...

If you have proof (like the PDR or camera), you can do what the op did. It’s getting to the point where ‘we’ need cameras and body cams now... shame...

But they can't LIE about your speed on a ticket. I mean they can, but they aren't actually allowed to knowingly do so which doesn't mean some won't....

That's the lie that I'd go to court about and then show proof that this specific cop is a lying d-bag.

And it's much easier for the officer to just say "You were weaving" than come up with BS detection and speed..

You most certainly can lie to the police. FBI, not so much. I guess if you are obstructing justice then no, or filing a false report, no. but If cop asks me where i'm coming from or going to...i can lie.

IMO, he baited you in by slowing down so much that short of just pulling over, you had to go around him. Then he executed the traffic stop.

If you are game for it, you call up the local troop commander/head honcho of this guy's district and tell him you have a video you want him to look at. If he has no time/interest in seeing you, then you know the score.

If he does watch the video with you, do not expect him to take your side. Best possible outcome is he has a word with the guy who pulled you over and says something to the effect of "Hey bonehead, a lot of cars have cameras in them now and show telemetry, make a note of this and I do NOT want to have to sit down with John Q. Public and watch any more of these."

If you aren't comfortable going into the Dragon's Den (you should be comfortable going in, the supervisor's job is to be aware of exactly this sort of stuff), then do what you can to spread the video locally. Eventually it's gong to be seen by someone who is likely to have some words of prayer with this eager agent of the state.
