All of the record Stock Mustang runs have been the automatics with the 3.31 rear cogs.

Also the Mustangs lose their power in the shift from 89 to lower octane. They still produce "412" HP at 89 and above.

I meant to say regular unleaded.

i myself wouldnt word it like that cuz i wouldnt want to insult the L99 owners but the auto 5.0 puts down 350+RWHP (vs 330rwhp)and weighs about 300lbs less. The numbers should speak for themselves in that case.

My guess is the there is a LOT of room for improvement in the tranny calibration on the auto stangs... In stock form the auto is probably very soft and slow shifting...

I had heard this also . One person here rented an auto gt and said his LT "felt" almost as fast due to the Mustangs sloppy passenger car auto trans. At the muffler shop I did get to talk to a guy with a new Mustang GT with m6, he dynoed at 365 to the wheels stock but wished he had got the auto because the Mustang was hard to hookup and his auto freinds kept beating him and he was no novice.I don't know if he had the trackpack or not or just needs to learn his setup better etc, just sayin'.

back to the thread as started seems the standard Mustang auto with 2.73 gears just makes an even fight of it and really shows how 280 lbs or so does have a profound impact on the times. If 3.31's available for the auto then Mustang wins again and we need 3.55's or 3.73's to keep up.

Actually the autos all have 3.15 gears. Imagine it with deeper gears and a tune

Plus the Stang GT with the track pack and sticky tires with aggressive gearing do even better, we have seen how much a Mustang can be slower without as aggressive gearing or track pack sticky tires...

91 is not requirerd with the SS.... just trying to make a best case for the Camaro, it is possible it could win, good driver to good driver.
There is no track pak on the Mustang, only the Brembo brake package and the only that gives that MAY help in the 1/4 mile is the tires, BUT all the quickest ones have been 3.31 geared manuals without that package or automatics which you cannot even get the brembo package on (I believe you can't anyways)..

Actually, ALL GTs come standard with Track Pack in 11.. Optional on the 10s..

Also the Autos come with 3:15s, not 3:31s..

Technically true, though it isn't a track pak for 11, it is the standard suspension And yeah, gotta love the that autos are soquick with just 3.15s.

Most good passes have it 1.9X. 1.8X to 1.9X is the average where the car hooks on the OEM tires.
