2012 V6 air conditioning temperature control door
I have a 2012 V6 convertible. I went to turn on the a/c, and it was just blowing warm air. I have never had anything done with the a/c so I figured it probably needed a recharge. I took it to the dealership, and they said the system is full and there are no codes in the hvac module. They said the temperature door is broken and not moving. They said they have to remove the dash and windshield to access and replace the door and actuator, and it would be $2500.00 for that. They were usually reasonable before the pandemic, prices are higher now. But this seems really ridiculous. Anyone else ever have this done? They said they have had the same issue on other Camaros. I really want a/c but that price seems ridiculously high.

Search on here for "blend Door" issues. Probably the most common failure of the 5th gen. And is a lot of work to fix the correct (service manual) way.

OMG it will take days to read all this. I had no idea about this issue before. Is there any sort of listing by state of people that can repair this more cost effectively than the dealership? I haven't found anything for anybody in Illinois.

yes, theres a hack to do it...read through or google "Camaro blend door repair", you use a hot knife and cut openb the air box and fix it that way instead of removing the entire dash...

I had mine go and my mechanic replaced the door by cutting it open. Was only a few hundred dollars.

I did the blend door hack. The alternative is taking it to a dealer and spending over $2500 to have them pull the whole dash - which on new Camaros involves pulling the windshield……..
If you have mega bucks then go the expensive route, otherwise the blend door hack works well. One note on the blend door hack - when re assembling before tightening the blend door stepper motor move the control knob one click at a time toward cold. When the motor moves the door is closed, note your full closed position on the knob and tighten the motor. The door closing too hard to the cold side is what stresses and breaks the door. Mine goes full cold at the last blue mark nearly a quarter turn from cold. I never go below that now. |

Pretty sure you are suppose to get it recalibrated so it knows max cold/hot. Im in Illinois and the dealer i bought my from did the fix cause it was broke when i bought it. Told me it would have been $3000 lol. If it happened now i would do the hack , doesnt look to bad and you can see it anyways.
