I hate to say anything negative but no thanks. I can't name a single GM product from the '80s that I would willingly subject myself to again, not even a Buick GNX. I lived with various '80s GMs, some merely 4 or 5 years old at the time I had them and they were pathetically built junk, each and every one.

Sorry if anybody here was part of their build or design, but as a user of the product...they stunk. And to be honest, the '60s and '70s products were barely more acceptable, but nostalgia forgives a lot and at least the cars (if you bought the right ones) went sideways when you goosed the loud pedal.

I totally agree, but I would want an iroc or Monte ss, more for nostalgia reasons. I loved these cars growing up.

I love Irocs because they were a cool car growing up, but you're right...they were absolute crap. Everything that wasn't cheap and brittle plastic was just plain cheap, with cheap trim. They were rattle traps even when they rolled off the lot. Anything that didn't break, faded, or came unglued.

GM Quality has come a long way since then, believe it or not!

I'd still love to restore one though, and keep it as a weekend/fun car.

All you have to do is look at the odometer on some cars, they only had 5 digit spaces, which meant they weren't meant to go over 100K miles

I have a soft spot for 3nd gen IROCs. I bought 2 of them new and still have the 2nd one and I've owned several others. I'm also fond of the Monte Carlo SSs, GNs and GNXs, but I know what your saying. The 80s wasn't exactly the high point for quality. I've experienced plenty of broken plastic parts and droopy headliners.

But there's some good things. A relatively lightweight platform with a suspension that can be as at home on a drag strip as a road course. The IROCs and WS6s were real handlers even by today's standards. The drivelines in them were anemic, but being Chevy-powered, that's pretty easily fixed.

Which brings me to one of the reasons that I'm not particularly impressed by the IROC-in-the-trailer story. It really doesn't have much going for it other than IROC and super low miles.

In an era if anemic engines, it has the most anemic one if them all, a LG4 with a measly 165 HP. A good running Ecotec Cavalier would run off and hide from it. Collector cars are always most valuable when they have the most powerful engine available and that LG4 hurts that one big time.

The other thing that hurts it is, the miles are too low. After 30 years of not being driven that car would have to be completely rebuilt just to get it to run. The entire fuel system, including the carburetor would have to be replaced or rebuilt. Same for the brake system. All engine, transmission, and differential seals would have to be replaced. It would be ok as it is, if you were just going to put it in a museum. But if you actually wanted it to run and drive, it would be a major project.

I ran an 87 IROC from 75k-120k miles back in the late 90's early 00's. Only issue was the 700r4 grenaded around 100k, and I rebuilt it. other than that it was a great car. absolutely loved that car
