Ok,
I went out to my car and just spent an hour and a half proving something.

First of all, every time I try to change songs on the iphone I get a unbearable screeching sound. It will not go away, and this was not the way it used to be.
I figured something out tonight, and it cannot be an iphone issue alone.
The software version may be part of the problem, but not all of it.

If you turn down the volume before you change a song it does not do this screeching. That is not an iphone issue!!!!! I did this over, and over, and over again. It is repeatable. Also on higher volumes the screeching will not go away no matter what you do. If the screeching starts, turn down the volume, and turn the menu select knob, and it goes away. Again, this cannot be only an iphone issue!!!

So if anyone else is willing to try and verify my findings, that would be great.
If anyone with any knowledge of why this works in this manner has any knowledge about it that would also be great.

Thanks, Roger

Did you update your iPhone to the 4.0.1 software release?
That corrected the sound issues for me. Scrolling through playlists, etc.. still not so good however.

What VIN area is the update for?

No screeching today, but I got my skipping back. Also got a device error for the first time today telling me to disconnect. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the joys of the technology age.

I had the same issues when I ugraded my iPhone 3GS to 4.0.1 the other day.
This morning I performed the hard reset, by holding both buttons until the apple appeared and like magic it worked!!
There are still issues with the playlists showing up initially, but I can live with that.
Not playing my music is unacceptable tho...
Happy with this fix.
For now....

Static

I'm having the same problems, but is anyone else having static issues? When I skip songs, after like 3 or 4, I will get screeching static. It will not stop unless I unplug the phone. Sometimes there will be static in the songs, at the louder parts or where the bass would kick. Also, when trying to scroll through playlists, I can see about 10 of them, but the other 30 all show up as " . . . ". Anyone else hearing static?
I've tried 4.0, and 4.0.1

Any Fixes Yet?

Has the GM representative came back with the fix? I have the same screeching problem and disconnection problem with my iphone 4. The menus never quite worked with my iphone 3GS but at least it played. Now, the phone plays one song and then Screeches/Static until the receiver freezes up. I bought my Camaro in April 2010, is there a Firmware fix?

seems like people with the iPhone 4 is working and the 3GS people are still having problems with the 4.0.1 update.

I have an iPhone 4 and still have all the problems everyone has listed. Nothing has changed for me at all.

I still have them as well. Once you get it playing, a playlist it is fine.

The phone numbers in my iphone that have names attached, show up as "unknown" on the car display when I get a call.

A summary of what *seems* to work:

1) update your iPhone to 4.0.1 of the OS (Either iPhone 4, or 3GS)
2) Perform a hard reset (hold the top button and home button until it resets) You will see the power off slider... keep holding! until you see the apple logo.

Then give it a shot.. My 3GS plays fine now (no static) - playlists still are blank and not very usable... but the sound is fine.

After that - maybe software update for the car?

Im going to try the audio over bluetooth tonight from my Ipod Touch. I went to IOS4 and after about a minute it starts to pulse static for a few seconds then either goes soild for a few seconds then says nothing on my ipod is readable, or after a few pulses of the static it just says there is no readable data on the ipod. If the bluetooth doesn't work (i have reset my ipod already thinking it was that before i foudn this thread.) Is GM working on a firmware update to fix this issue i know its hit or miss but somethings going on....
