Exclamation Unnerving engine sound

Hi all.

I come here hoping for good news fear I might not get it. I recently took my 2010 SS with 149,000 miles on it to the mechanic for an odd sound coming from the engine bay. From the outside it sounds something like a belt slipping, but from the inside of the car it sounds more like a Tim. They ended up finding metal in the oil after changing both belts and the sound continuing. My mechanic says I need a new engine as he thinks it’s the lifters, etc. My stepson has had multiple SSs. He had two of his do the same thing, but never developed into anything worse. His research showed it was a common issue with these vehicles.

I’m thinking of putting a oil filter magnet on plus running either seafoam or Lucas in with my oil change.

Any thoughts, suggestions, or condolences?

Is your car an auto (L99) or an LS3? That info would help a bit as the L99's have the crappy AFM lifters in them which ARE prone to failure, whereas the LS3 engines don't have them, but some of the earlier LS3's did have oil pump issues.

If it's an LS3, I would try to figure out where the sound is coming from. You can get a stethascope I think from an auto parts store and listen to the valve covers and intake manifold to see if you can pinpoint where it is. A video posted on here if you can might help us point you in the right direction.
