Question how do you find the exact center of the hood for DIY rally stripes??

ok, i have been measuring for 2 days LOL

how did anyone that installed their own rally stripes find the center in the hood???

the front is easy to find,

but trying to find center at the end of the hood near the windshield is FRUSTRATING to say the least.

I'm a girl and just a guess.... measuring tape from edge to edge and half of what the total is should put you close. I'd use my lipstick to mark the center on the windshield right behind the hood. That's just what I'd do. No idea how to really do it though. If I wanted it right I'd get a shop to do it for me so if it wasn't right they would have to fix it.

I measured from corner to corner, ignoring the bulge. Put tape at the centerpoint and worked from there.

Good point. Isn't there also a little crease at the center line of the hood?

I'd second that. However, although it gets feint towards the windscreen, there is a centre crease in the hood. Just dot a wax crayon, or lipstick as mentioned above along the line.

Tape measure and a crayon to mark the center.

Are you using the GM stripes.? They are really easy to center. The outer layer acts as a template you just line up the notches on the inside edge of the two hood stripes. Once you find the center at the top, center that in the top notches.

no they arent GM stripes,i had them made.

and the pinstripe is separate from the main stripe,

so im going to have to put the main stripes down ,

unmask them,

and then lay the pinstripes, which is fine cause i can eyeball them into place after the main stripe is down.

it seemed like every time i measured and split the difference the marks didnt look right.

If I said that the windshield end looks a smidge too far to the right, are you going to hunt me down and stab me in my sleep?

Listen to the LADY, except the lip stick, use a grease pencil.

For all I know, it could just be an optical illusion created by a combination of the color, the picture (if it's a smidge off level) and my monitor that is making me think it's off.

Just get about eye level with the top of the hood and move side to side to get a solid feel for whether it's in the center or not.

From the picture, though, it looks like that line of tape is about as perfectly straight as any out there

Edit: I'm willing to bet my stripes (installed "from the factory") are probably "off" more than yours will be when you're done.

Just measure to the top outside corner of the hood. Should be equal on each side.

I don't see how putting on the pinstripe separate is going to work. The factory rallys put the pinstripe in the same backing so you squeegee it all down at once. I couldn't imagine laying it down separate and getting a consistent gap all the way around.
