OEM axles going extinct - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I've been chasing a vibration is my drive line for months. Car is usually ok 50mph and bellow. I get no vibration when I off the gas pedal. Long story short, I've changed motor mounts, drive shaft couplers and center bearing, Differential mounts, sub frame bushings, and even trailing/toe arms. I have checked my axle boots and I've checked any type of play in my axles and nothing... So, I am going with my gut and purchasing axles assuming that's where its coming from with my experience. 2010 SS axles are discontinued and will not restock. None of the Part #s for the 1LE axles is going to stock either. NAPA and Oreilly will have an aftermarket brand with a lifetime warranty for $300 a pair. (too risky to go aftermarket cheapos for me) I did not want to fork over $2k for axles to handle 1400hp because honestly that's not my power goal.

The Z/28 axles are the only factory option. There are 8 in the country for the left side (23473010) and 3 for the right side (23473011)

Wish me Luck on fixing my Vibration issue. and just letting yall know there is a limited supply of OEM parts out there for 5th gens especially with them all turning over 10 years old.

I tried an aftermarket axle from Rockauto. It wouldn't stay engaged in the differential. So I sent it back. I sourced low mileage used axles from Hawks Motorsports.

That’s what I was afraid of with using aftermarket brands. I worked for Honda for a number of years and now Mercedes Benz. I would never recommend a aftermarket axle replacement because either fitment issue or failures of the part with a year or so

i would suggest figuring out the exact conditions for when the vibration happens and goes away. It will point you toward the area of the car to focus on.

Is it worse with increase in speed.
does it go away as soon as clutch is pushed in.
Is it in steering wheel or seat.

There are many factors that can help you understand and isolate it if the information is focused.

Side note, I just replaced my DSS axles that were exteremely worn and there was no vibration from them.

It’s in the seat and it’s definitely when accelerating. Push in the clutch or even getting off the gas, the vibration goes away.

Yeah I think I got the last pair on the market really. I think I found them on carpart.com and snatched them up for an extra set. Sorry bud. Yeah I had a clunk from gear to gear. The guy that had the car before me out in some cheap aftermarket axles in so I replaced them with some from rock auto. Same darn thing, cluck sound when switching gears. So then I bought some OEM ones from amazon of all places and clunk has been gone every since.

While I'm there. I'm replacing the rotors with A/C Delco found on RockAuto. And SFK wheel bearings I found $97 for the pair on ebay.com

I’ve got a set of OEM SE axles with about 5k miles on them. Swaped to a ZL1 driveline and kept the axles and driveshaft. Kind of glad I did. I think these things are gaining value by the day. Weird that GM would just drop these parts. Thankfully we have the aftermarket supporting these Camaros nicely.

Go with a ZL1/Z28 version of the bearings. They are much more heavy duty.
