3.91 gears in a 2010 V6 auto car?
Having finally secured a SS diff for my heap for the purposes of limited slip hoonage, I'm looking at moving higher-up numerically to either a 3.45 or 3.91 gearset for my 3.27-geared, 2010 V6 auto car.
Given that I'm moving over from a Ford product that produced vibration nightmares that never went away by simply moving from a 3.27 gear to a 3.73, yes, the 3.91 gears sound like an awesome option for my turd, but will this car benefit from the 3.91's, or is there a problem with stock driveshaft vibration at freeway speeds, and I should stick with 3.45's? |

A V6 would likely benefit the most from having more gear, but I don't how steep first gear is on a V6 auto. All factory AAM gears are pretty quiet. I would use the AAM 3.91s before I would use another manufacturer's 3.73. I would not think it possible to introduce a vibration with a gear change if the diff is set up correctly, so choose a good shop.

We offer the GM 3.91 Ring & Pinion. This is what comes in the SS/1LE Camaros.

Assuming you want it for all around street duty...if you can get 3.45, THAT is where I would go. Figure out where the car will do most of its living and build for that.
3.91s are fun, until you realize you're putting gas in it more often, and listening to the revving engine on the highway, and putting more wear and tear on it. Might even lose you a bit of time at the race track. Just depends on what your end goal is with the car. Many times people mod without proper planning and just throw parts at it without regard to final goals for the project. Would you build a house without plans? But, there's always the overdrive thing so that helps if you choose 3.91s.
