I'm new to the modern performance world. What should I use for fuel in my '15 Z to take full advantage of the high compression and stock tune of this wonderful beast? I'm currently using 50% Torco 100 octane race gas with 50% Chevron 87 octane regular. Do these electronics automatically adjust timing to take advantage of higher octane fuel? I want to reduce alcohol content by a reasonable amount. Only have 91 octane 10% alcohol premium in my area. Car is driven spirited for therapy purposes but not raced.

91-93 should be fine for daily driving man. All you need is premium...

On a stock car/tune anything over 91 oct is a waste. Us east coast guys get 87/89/93 as our pump options. The factory tune is set up for 91oct, has a standard spark map and a low octane Spark map that get triggered if a certain % of knock is detected from lower octane fuel.

91 is all you need for normal Z driving - which would be considered "spirited" by the general public

I would stay away from 87, even if you blend with 100 octane unleaded - if you do want to blend the do it with 91. But as noted above there is no tune for 100 octane, so it is not doing you any good!

Use good gas - Chevron - Shell - stay away from AM/PM, 7-11 etc.

For the life of me, I absolutely do not get it. Why on Earth would anybody not be putting anything but 91-94 octane into these V8 performance vehicles? This same question came up in another thread. Between the owner's manual, the instructions on the gas cap, the power of the internet and unadulterated common sense...how/why is anyone putting anything less than 91 octane or greater than 94 octane into these cars (unless you're heavily modified and tuned for it)? I am stumped. I am absolutely, 100%, full-blown stumped.

All material pertaining to the Z/28 (owner's manual/tech sheet, etc) list fuel "requirement" as "PREMIUM". In New Jersey premium is 93 at the pumps. I never deviate from the factory recommendation. As previously mentioned, I have no idea why someone would use a lower octane. It's just not that much more money. (Hell -- give up the daily Starbucks latte and one would be whole for the year)

Depending on ambient air temperature (i.e. really hot days) I will occasionally use 100 octane at the race track. Frequently I will mix 93 with 100 for a safety margin as it will often live over 6000 RPM

I've had the fuse pulled since I bought it. You put it back in?

I didn't replace it either. Actually I did replace it with a purposely blown fuse just in case the local LEOs weren't happy so I could show them it musta blown.

That was 4 years ago, no problems.

Some of you performance guys may be able to help me out on a portion of my original post. I'm also concerned about the alcohol content in the fuel available in Arizona. I mix in the race gas to reduce alcohol content as well as boosting the octane. I'm now aware of the factory 91 tune but I'm still not a big fan of ethanol sitting in my tank for extended periods of time. I'm an old carburetor guy so my phobia runs deep.

I'm guessing you're speaking of ethanol and NOT alcohol?

I live in PA and my cars sit (not driven) for 4-5 months at a time. I have never had one lick of problems with ethanol gumming up the works. If you're that concerned with it, add in some Stabil or Seafoam prior to storage and call it a day. You're truly overthinking this topic.
