Night Gators

Heading back to Abilene from San Antonio on I-10 last weekend I ran over a damn gator (shredded tire) from an 18 wheeler. It put a nasty black rubber scuff on my beautiful white front ground effect chin spoiler!!! Lucky it all came off with some bug and tar remover and a little elbow grease. Still the sound of running over it made me sick, besides it scared the hell out of my sleeping wife too!!!

I know what you mean bro'.

I had just bought my new Sunfire GT back in 1997 and was on a road trip when out of nowhere a road gator got me and ripped the driver side ground effects darn near off.

Expensive, but I have since learned to be more cautious at night and use Xenon headlights for more advanced warning.

I pray that history doesn't repeat itself on my '11 2SS when it gets here.

I'm glad you splained what a Texas Gator was, cause I didn't think ya'll had gators there. Now if you were to hit one of our gators it's gonna do more than scuff your car ... You would be surprised what kind of damage a 8'-10' gator will do ...

But on the brighter side, just think of the nice pair of cowboy boots you could make out of it after you're done crying over your Camaro.

SlingShot, we have gators in Texas as well but they are mostly in the SE part of the state, typically from Victoria, East thru Houston to Louisiana. BUT you can't drive more than 5 miles along I-35 without seeing a "Texas Gator".

I did the same thing, but it ripped off the guard under the front and broke all the little tabs that hold it on = new bumper

This happened to me last week on my way to work. The minivan in front of me threw it up and right into my path. I swerved and missed most of it. I heard a loud thump anyway, and was certain that when I parked and checked the car at work, I'd find front end damage. All I had was the same type of scuff on my lower front fascia; bug and tar remover got it all. I got lucky.

"Ran over a gaiter" I have never heard it called that!!!

Now every time I see one on the side of the road I will think of that! No real Gaiters here in Central NY!!!

I know what you mean about summit white looks great but it is like every bug and other road trash has to throw it self against it like it is it own personal painting canvous!!!

Just spent weekend clay baring and waxing my summit white 2000!
