2000 SS Rims on a 1996 Z28

Hello Everyone
I have a 1996 Z28 with 245/50R16 and recently found SS rims from a 2000 SS Conv. They had 275/40R17 tires, will they work on my 96? When I went to buy rubber they told me to put 245/45R17 on the Rims.

Which is correct?

Thanks

Bob

Thanks, I thought that they would fit. I think I just need to bring the RIMS and leave the car at home. Some of these tire places I think just try to sell what they have in stock.

I replaced the wheels on my 96 with the 99 style (i think?) chrome 5-star (stock/OEM) 16" rims.... Only issue i ran into was the the hubs on the 96 were a TINY bit bigger. That center hub that the wheels slides over before you put on the lugnuts....

So, i had to take a dremel or file or sandpaper (dont' remember which i used now, it was a LONG time ago!) -- but i filed down the large center hole in the WHEEL itself until it slid on the hub. So, if you get them all set up, and they don't fit over the hub, don't panic, get ta' grindin'!

I'm not sure what year that size changed... probably 98? So if your wheels are newer than 97, I wouldn't be surprised if you had an issue when you go to put em on.... Not a big deal, easy fix!

Thanks I will check to see if they fit before I purchase rubber. It looks the same so must not be that much difference. These Rims are from at 2000 SS Camaro not even used. The Chrome option so should look nice, just they have the SS marking. So that just means I have to do something to live up to the SS.

Hello Bobn218,
ninety6 was right, but I will add that it was only the rear axles that wont fit. You might want to dremel all of them just in case in the future you want to rotate the tires. Please see the link below:

Before and after pictures would be cool for comparison!
