The key in your last picture looks just like the eom key. What changed?

The last pic is of the key shaft installed on the black fob I received when I picked up my camaro yesterday.

Did the car start after you broke the key out of the original holder? The RFID signal to recognize the key and start the car was in the key holder you demolished to get the key.

If you destroyed the original RFID device, you should have had to relearn the modified keyfob, as there is also an RFID device in the fob.

Why did you bother? Isn't that the same thing as having the eom switchblade key?

Because the switchblade is cooler than the recall key

AGREED, but didn't SinisterZL1 start with an eom switchblade key fob?

Yes is started with a switch blade fob but the factory recall removes the key blade and sticks it in an rubber end key nub. I ground the nub off and installed it on the empty switchblade fob as they leave the factory hinge in place in the fob. I hate having the standard key and a fob after have the switchblade on my 2012 ss. So much nicer. I left the second set of keys alone for now.

The plastic he broke the key out of has no electronics in it. I just did the same thing. Nothing but plastic

Actually mine had a anti theft chip in it. I cut into it by accident. I tried using the key with a pair of vise grips after and the anti theft tripped. But once I put key blade into fob body it started up so the plastic nob and the fob must both have a anti theft chip. This is a Canadian 2014. Don't know if there different for different years or if it makes a difference in a USA delivered car.

Oh dam, I missed that, i will go back and look. But mine started up fine after I removed the key and re installed it in the FOB. I did not try it while it was out.

My service center is Cadillac so I doubt they'll even bother, but if they do, fine. I'll use the new key when I get service and my spare original for regular use.

That's my plan as well.
