PUTTING WARRANTY QUESTIONS ABOUT LS3 CYL HEAD AND CAM PACKAGE TO REST.

Hello fellow 1LE enthusiasts.

Here is the skinny on the LS3 heads and cam warranty. If installed by a gm dealer and programmed by gm it will be covered under warranty. the tune is included BUT here is the issue with it. if you install the parts the engine ecu will compensate and the car will run just fine, it will have a 6600rpm red line. the tune for the LS7 camshaft and heads will raise the red line to 7000rpm and give you much more than the advertised 40 hp increase, closer to 500hp. BUT THE TUNE HAS NOT YET BEEN CARB CERTIFIED SO IT DOES NOT EXIST. The government is dragging it heels. So you can get the parts and the labor through gm for now, and when the tune is ready they can flash your ecu with a gm calibration number to keep it all gm warranty ready. I am definitely keeping my ear to the ground, when the tune drops, im in. all information is from a most reliable source.

Good info!.....So everyone that posted is currently correct.

To confirm what you are saying?....The tune is included, but not available. So it is 40HP with no tune and If/when the tune is CARB certified it will be rated higher still retaining the warranty.

I sent a message to a acquaintance at GMPP to inquire as well.
Correct. No tune as of this moment. But it is included. Just not certified. It will be similar to the ls7 tune.

This is how it is listed now, so the description is deceiving...

If you want a little more out of your LS3 engine, meet this dynamic duo of CNC-ported heads and high-lift camshaft. This kit pair can increase the power of the LS3 engine in your Corvette to 470-plus hp and 440 lb-ft of torque. Developed by Chevrolet Performance engineers as a direct replacement for the factory-installed heads and camshaft (tuning required), with 276 cc intake runners and 2.165-inch/1.590-inch valves.

The camshaft makes the most of the heads’ generous airflow attributes, with .591-inch/.591-inch lift and 211°/230° duration at .05 inch and a 121° lobe separation angle. This kit fits other LS-family engines with at least 4-inch bores. Contents include the camshaft and fully assembled cylinder heads. Head gaskets (P/N 12610046) and cylinder head bolts (P/N 17800568) must be purchased separately.

NICE I just started a thread about this same issue. I've talked to a couple of dealers and they both said the warranty would still be in tact. I had several people mention it wouldn't be the actual GM Powertrain warranty so I went to a different dealer today and they said the full GM warranty would be in tact. I'm still curious about those hp numbers.

CARB certified? I don't live in California so this really makes no sense to me...seeing that California state law doesn't apply to my car...

CARB stands for California Air Resources Board, basically any automotive part that meets their standards on emissions can be used in vehicles equipped with "California Emissions". Since the levels of emissions from vehicle exhaust is the strictest in California, any part that meets the CARB standard is 50 state legal.

If you want a gm calibration number in your ecu, and a warranty to back it up, then yes it does make sense.

I was referring to how just about every part manufacturer makes parts that are 50 state legal and 49 state legal. How about put a tune in the cars that are not in Cali? Bet they would sell a few kits...if the tune never gets a carb #, then it just sucks to be there. I know all about the scam that is the CARB system just like I know what it stands for. CARB is a scam put in place by the California gov to make money, they give no shits about the environment. But thanks for the info I already knew...

Ive been reading and patiently waiting for the correct info before posting. In my opinion, the factory tune still will be on the conservative side of what the combo's potential has....I. E. dyno tune and longtubes.... IMO 485-495....seeing as a ls3 with a ls hot cam 480 at crank....ls7 heads and cam with factory cats...factory tune..485-495 is easily reachable.
