Dealer Recall Question

The other day I took my Z in for an Oil change and one of the service guys told me there was a recall. The only details he could give me was it is a wire harness that is prone to wear. Does anyone know what this is about? I’m going back to get it replaced soon.

It’s an easy repair. They just add some protective tubing to a part of
The harness. Simple fix.

Yes, just had this done last week when I went in for an alignment. An anti abrasion wrap and sleeve are added to a wire harness junction near the firewall. Wear has caused all sorts electrical gremlins in impacted vehicles.

Depending on the car, there can be 3 different service campaigns similar to this. One for wiring by the steering rack, one for wiring sort of behind the passenger headlight, and one for wiring near the ABS module near the passenger side rear of engine bay.

I took care of the one near the headlight already myself. I could see that one causing major issues. My harness was wedged against the pointy edge of the nearby sheet metal, and had a nice gouge already present. It hadn’t worn through the factory protective covering yet, but it definitely looked like it would have eventually.

I’ll take care of the one near the rack next time I have it in the air. The one near the ABS is super easy. Just need a special clip to secure it. I don’t let other people touch my cars unless absolutely necessary. These are all easy fixes if you have a little automotive experience.

Mine was made in June of 2018. I am wondering if GM has already addressed this at the factory.

It’s not a safety recall, so you will not receive notice. It’s a mandatory TSB to be performed if/when you bring the car in for dealer service, and only free of charge during the original factory warranty period.

Mine’s a 2017. I had it in Friday for an oil change and they did it.
There was another recall for gauge flutter but they have to order parts.

Can you talk just a little more about where exactly these repairs need to be accomplished? I'm getting ready to pull my front end off for some lighting mods. Thanks.

Bill

Had my 500 mile oil change this past Saturday on my 19 and this wasn’t accomplished. I assume it doesn’t apply.

Yes PDI is part of the TSBs, and they’ve been out quite a while so I would expect Chevy to have fixed the 19’s at the factory.

It must only apply to 17 and 18 models.
