Looks like the ZL1 will have the same width front tires as the GT500's rear tires -- 285. Ford should fit 305 width tires all around like Pedders did on their Mustang. That would at least make things interesting.

Ummm...Good for Ford. Maybe they can spend some of the money on GT500 development to pay off all the customers who are suing them over faulty transmissions in the 2011/12's...I am sure adding horsepower and a drag racing tree to the dash is going to make it all better.

For those of you freaking out, remember that people with CTS-V cars have made the same horsepower that the GT500 is with a pulley swap and a tune. You don't think you can do the same with a Camaro ZL1?

So, congrats to Ford for sticking 650 Horses in a tired platform - Awesome car. I will still put my money on the better looking, better handling, and roomier ZL1.

Hennessey on the LSA in the CTS-V: And dirty they have gotten, with hours and hours of research and design into a new Supercharger Pulley Upgrade Package for the new Cadillac CTS-V. More power means more fun, and this pulley upgrade offers an impressive increase. Lingenfelter’s CTS-V has tested to 630 brake horsepower and 630 ft-lbs of torque. An increase any performance enthusiast would be crazy over. Boost level is increased to 12-13 psi, still relatively safe numbers for the 6.2L. Best of all, the price tag on Lingenfelter’s pulley upgrade is attractive too, especially considering the Cadillac CTS-V tips in at over $60,000. One can be hand for as low as $589.95 retail, labor excluded. For those that just want to drop it off along with a check book, Lingenfelter will do a complete in-house installation, taking possession of the vehicle, testing and a full dyno report before and after the install.

Is it even worth making a ZL1 anymore? This car is in another league.

I think you're wrong.

I don't think we'll ever think we can't be beat.

I haven't a clue as to what you mean by "GM dropped the ball on the development of this car...."

No -- we are not going to cancel production of the car.

And I must say that by reading most of your posts, you'll be disappointed no matter what we do.

This is a lame response and not one I'm going to pretend is a satisfactory solution. Everyone who get's their ass handed to them says this.

Unless Chevy offers an aftermarket upgrade through GM Performance that still maintains the factory warranty (similar to how Ford does with allowing you to swap out superchargers to make more power and still be covered by the manufacturer), it's like comparing apples to oranges. Speaking of which, it would be really nice if they did offer us performance upgrades like that while supporting the warranty. Step your game up GM.

Well if this actually makes it into production and the numbers are valid, I think it will out muscle the ZL1. Lets watch for actual production data and specs and see where the price goes. The advantage Ford has is they do not have to worry about outperforming their star like Chevy has to do with the Camaro out performing the Vette.

One thing that will be worth watching is with the GT500 making the jump to 650 hp will this open the door for Ford to raise hp on the GT and Boss. I would think you will see a 500 hp Boss very soon and maybe a 450 hp GT

Also note if I had the coin I'd consider this new GT500!

Wow... thats crazy but I bet its going to cost an arm and a leg now! That much power puts it out of the camaro's leage again I actually think thats kinda stupid because now there looking at competing with corvette, you cant compare 580 to 650

I, for one, appreciate the advancements GM has made and I will thoroughly enjoy my ZL1 when I get it.

LOL. Why is it that ford always seems a year behind in the horsepower? Chevy had in the works for a 2012 camaro ZL1 and then for 2013 ford releases its GT500 with so much power... Do they not realize that, that gives chevy ammo or a goal to shoot for in one year? For 2012 the camaro is still the car to beat STOCK VS STOCK in this war. Not a 2012 vs 2013 or a 2011 vs 2012 or however these magazines compare them. I am tired of different year comparisons. Do a straight up base camaro and mustang NON-PAID for or BIAS run on them both, then the same for the top of the line camaro and mustang out of the FORD or CHEVY factory and lets see who wins. That means Shelby Mustangs are out. If they were in, that means Hennessy camaro would beat it hands down EVERY time. So factory built only cars, and guess what... camaro wins. No matter what you say a shelby mustang is NOT FORD BUILT. It is SHELBY factory built. The camaro ZL1 is CHEVY/GM built. Let the bashing and stupid talk BEGIN!!!!!!! MUAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

The new GT500 gives the oval crowd something to cheer about. Let them celebrate. Camaro lovers got a ZL1, Mopar lovers got the SRT8, and Mustang lovers have their GT500. Hopefully GM is not done with the pony wars. But I'm guessing Chrysler is fading some.

I believe GM put those rear cameras in the mirrors in Camaros for a reason...so you can watch the competition lose. They best keep it that way.

Side note, still like how the mustang looks. Chevy, Ford and Dodge did an awesome job remaking a retro style car. High five to them all!!!!
