I left it in 4th gear paddle mode.

Tried shifting and found that I was better to leave it in 4th and focus on learning.

I have been drag racing for 32 Years and often wondered what I was missing, I had thought about it many times when I owned my 2000 Trans Am but never made the commitment to do it.

When I bought the ZL-1 I Made the commitment to get to a road coarse.

I don't know how it works at other road coarses but you just don't show up and buy a ticket, you have to go through the proper channels, Join a club, pay your dues, and take a driving Class, and a Driving instructor rides along with a helmet communicator.

I just spent Friday 14th at Limerock Park in CT. the schedule extremely organized, Safety is Paramount for everyone involved.

Tech 7:00-9:00 Drivers meeting 9:00 am Class at 9:30-10:15 First session 10:40_11:00 class 11:30-12:15 Second session 12:40-1:00 Third session 2:40-3:00 Fourth session 4:40-5:00.

With Proper instruction and 80 minutes out on the coarse it is amazing how fast I picked up the skills necessary to get around the coarse smoothly.

I did get airborne sideways once over the uphill but recovered nicely.

I have to tell you that if your not using your ZL-1 For what it was designed for your Missing Out Big Time.

The Experience is something that can't be explained here in Text.

The adrenaline of running corners at speeds of 60-80 MPH with the confidence the ZL-1 Provides is Unexplainable.

I plan to do this again in the Fall.

My car came with Silver wheels, I know know what it looks like with Black Wheels on it

My 75 RWHP tune package is now Track tested and Proven reliable.

Just wondering is there any road courses in the Midwest would love to take mine out to a road course and experience the thrill of putting her through the twisties?

I am not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but please make sure you have proper insurance for HPDE.

Over the years I have seen more than a few cars wadded up without insurance coverage, everything from Miata's to Ferrari's.

Also, take it easy until you really know what you are doing. Honestly, for the price of a ZL1 I would suggest buying a Spec Miata for 8-10k and tracking that for a while to learn the specifics of running on a track prior to taking out your $60k car and then when you are very comfortable with racing techniques selling the Miata (although you won't want to) for the same thing you paid for it.

Once again, sorry for being a downer, I spend many weekends at the track and have seen it all. It can happen to you!

Then if you really like track time, build a 24 Hours of Lemons or Chumpcar and go have some real fun.

You are not too far from a great road coarse in Michigan. Gingerman is in South Haven Michigan and is a great road coarse. I have not had a car to go there since 2003 and may try to get there this year with the ZL1. I need to break the car in first and replace some fluids then give it a try again. They used to have a test and tune session on certain weekdays around 5:30 pm until dark in the summer and fall....reasonably priced and lots of fun........

As for coverage. Lockton is great. I have the car covered for 60K with a cost of $414 (that includes admin and tax). 10% Deductible.

I would say that while there are many HPDE suppliers out there (BMW, PCA, CHIN, MVP, JZilla, HOD, JustTrackIt...etc) some are MUCH looser with the qualifications and "manners" of the drivers out there from what I can see. I'd much rather start at the bottom (no matter how experienced I think I may be..... years and years of AutoX...etc) and do it proper with an instructor.

But if I had anything out there at $7500 or higher.... I'd get that insurance for the it-could-happen-catastrophic event, god forbid.

FYI....another thing you can do is to rent a track out. Some of the smaller tracks near me like Little Talledega (Birmingham) or Roebling have a lease fee. Example..... LittleT (granted a small track) you can get for $1500 weekday, $1800 Friday. So on a Friday you get 15 friends, $120each for the day, and go out in 3 groups of 5. That is not bad at all. (Only item is, unless a track event is sanctioned with instructors and classroom time, places like Lockton will NOT insure....and I understand that).

Definitely find one, it is probably the most fun you can have in a car like this.

Great Suggestion, but that's the beauty of technology, the PTM Allows you to start soft and work your way up.
