Question Blue Halos

Question: I know its been said numerous times that you cannot legally change the halos to a different color such as red or blue because it is against the law. Can somebody point out where it says this in the law because I'm ninety nine percent sure that the buick enclave comes with blue halos and its legal. So if its legal on the buick why cant camaros have different color halos?

By the way heres a pic of those headlights on the buick:

And heres the link to the page:

They aren't a true blue... more of a white that looks blue.

Red and Blue are reserved for emergency vehicles only.

Actually, red is reserved for emergency vehicles. If you tell a police officer to show you where blue is reserved only for emergency vehicles, he may be looking for a long time, because in most states blue is not specifically set aside for emergency vehicles.

But, if he's anal enough to pull you over just for having blue halo's, he'll probably be writing you a ticket anyway.

Red and Blue are both illegal in Florida

that halo definitely looks blue to me! Maybe there's an opening you could get by with as far as the legality.

Hmmm maybe we'll start seeing camaro's rolling with blue halo's soon! Interesting!

It depends on the state, some states set aside any red or blue, some stipulate forward-facing, some set aside strobes or flashing, etc...

For the most part, you guys wanting blue halos will just have to accept that you might get hassled for it. Arguing the finer points of the law with the cop that pulled you over is only going to get you more tickets, even if you are right.

If they already appear to be blue, why want to change? Just asking.

Sec. 547.305. RESTRICTIONS ON USE OF LIGHTS. (a) A motor vehicle lamp or illuminating device, other than a headlamp, spotlamp, auxiliary lamp, turn signal lamp, or emergency vehicle or school bus warning lamp, that projects a beam with an intensity brighter than 300 candlepower shall be directed so that no part of the high-intensity portion of the beam strikes the roadway at a distance of more than 75 feet from the vehicle.

(b) Except as expressly authorized by law, a person may not operate or move equipment or a vehicle, other than a police vehicle, with a lamp or device that displays a red light visible from directly in front of the center of the equipment or vehicle.

(c) A person may not operate a motor vehicle equipped with a red, white, or blue beacon, flashing, or alternating light unless the equipment is:

(1) used as specifically authorized by this chapter; or

(2) a running lamp, headlamp, taillamp, backup lamp, or turn signal lamp that is used as authorized by law.

(d) A vehicle may be equipped with alternately flashing lighting equipment described by Section 547.701 or 547.702 only if the vehicle is:

(1) a school bus;

(2) an authorized emergency vehicle;

(3) a church bus that has the words "church bus" printed on the front and rear of the bus so as to be clearly discernable to other vehicle operators;

(4) a tow truck while under the direction of a law enforcement officer at the scene of an accident or while hooking up to a disabled vehicle on a roadway; or

(5) a tow truck with a mounted light bar which has turn signals and stop lamps in addition to those required by Sections 547.322, 547.323, and 547.324, Transportation Code.

I would be curious to know if the halo's count as a running lamp, they are not flashing or strobing, not in the top center of car?

It says visible from the front center of the car, not mounted in the center. Either way RED is a no no, but I think BLUE is OK as long as it's not flashing.

I know but, i am wondering about the candle power limitation in part a, and if they meant roof light....

I'm not going mess with it, but was jsut curious becasue of how the laws can sometimes be interpreted so many ways.

I agree, it's seems vague (like most laws when you see them written) I'm sure you could get away with some colors(not RED ever). My son had some red and blue interior lights in his car once and was stopped, the cop was cool and just told him he could have red or blue but not both inside the car and let him off with a warning to remove one of the colors! I think if you stay away from red you could be OK, as always depends on the cop and what he really pulled you over for!
