Lq4 in 2011 camaro v6
Recently purchased a 2011 camaro v6 from an auto auction, just blew up v6. Wonder what all is needed for a gen 3 block in a 5th gen car, 58x reluctor? 6l80 tranny? And ss wiring harness? Will gauges still work with gen 3 components? Figured going to be a bit of wiring involved. Cars already been upgraded with brembo brakes and ss rear swap.

From what I remember from the other threads, it's doable but not easy.

Agreed with the above comments, can be done BUT very time consuming and a PITA. Not your average back yard weekend swap.

Figured I’d let everyone know I went ahead with the swap. So far it hasnt been that bad, 6.0 and 6l80e are installed in the car, hoping to be done in the next month or so. Still have to get intake, front drive accessories like alternator and ps pump, headers and ss wiring harness

Wiring harnesses are easy enough now to re-pin or have made custom if needed. Its the ECM and module reprogramming that usually stops progress, as most dealers will not go anywhere near these types of reflashes. You usually have to know someone that works at a dealership to get anything done. A couple years ago I bought a Chinese knock off Tech2/Candi device that has J2534 pass thru capabilities. This allows you to use the $100 knock off Tech2 device as a programmer for all GM CanBus modules. It only costs $40 per VIN for a 2 year subscription to GM's TDS programming service, which gives you access to the entire library of files for reflashing modules, ECMs, & TCMs. This would dramatically cut down on the headache and wall most people run into when the dealer inevitably refuses to help you flash any projects which are 'other than stock'. You just need a decent laptop to use as the interface. I bought mine mainly for using the GM GDS2 software to troubleshoot my car electrical system. It allows complete remote access and control of every single module in the car for testing purposes. You can basically activate and turn on/off every single electrical component in the car from your laptop with GDS2, monitor every single engine sensor, run scans and create graphs, hold rpm at very specific values to test sensors, etc...pretty much anything you can think of for troubleshooting. If have personally not yet needed to flash anything or subscribe, but I do plan on it in the future when I do my HUD upgrade. Here is where you would subscribe to the Vehicle Programming Software, which gives you full access to the GM library of files needed to flash modules and computers: https://www.acdelcotds.com/subscriptions# I have the Wifi version of this: https://www.amazon.com/VXDIAG-VCX-Na...6948951&sr=8-1 I highly recommend the more expensive versions as getting the software running perfectly was a couple of days worth of massive frustration. There are also others which are easier to install and get up and running, but cost a bit more. They look much more like the real deal, but are usually missing the 'GM' decal. Although some come with the sticker in the box lol: https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-GM-MDI-...MAAOSwDYJgPvPM https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-GM-MDI-....c101195.m1851 Anyone that buys any of these or similar devices, just make sure it comes with all the required software. *** I have absolutely zero relation or vested interest in any of these links I posted, and they were all selected randomly from the other hundreds of listings online - just trying to post info and help members.

Yes, please do. We need as much information on these type of builds that we can get. Once enough are done successfully a walkthrough or guide can be put together to help out others in the future.
I'm also hoping to hear an update from the guy doing the TR6060 swap on an automatic L99 SS. I know GPI has done one for a customer that came out great and nearly identical to stock manual setup, but there is no build info on it anywhere, but just a short video from the customer when he picked it up.

LQ4/LQ9 Excellent stable platform if done right it’s not out of the park to reach north of 1,000HP. Have you drilled for the alternator mounting bracket? Recommend you utilize case hardened mounting bolts as I have sheared mine twice till I drilled for larger diameter bolts.

Car is done for the most part, daily drive it, I ended up going with a l99 6.2 in it, guages all work, car just isn't factory set up ignition/key wise, but doesn't bother me
Car has been done since July. |
