500 RWHP ?

Is it possible to achieve 500 RWHP by adding ported heads, bigger cam, larger intake manifold, cold air intake, LT headers, HF Cats & a tune (of course), to a naturaly aspirated LS3 ?

If not, then what other mods will be needed to reach 500 RWHP ?

Thanks in advance !

PS : 93 octane pump gas

I'm not expert but it's just possible as some have reportedly done. I think in part it has to do with the tune and in particular the dyno (happy dyno will help )

Probably has to be a really aggressive cam for that high of a peak.

Depends on the dyno.

Very true.... but you'll be there. Don't focus too much on the numbers. Find a good tuner that has her running like a champ!

Shoot for 10s instead of 500.
500 is talk. 10s is action.

I'm at 494/477 dynojet SAE and I still have the stock intake manifold and my cam isn't the biggest for what its worth.

the intake manifold most have bought over the years the FAST is more made for a larger cube but can pick a few horses on a stock sized ls3 the deal is down low its most likely not so much and spendy and then you would want the 102 another $500 from nick Williams so...1500 , ported heads also better on a more radical build. Most dont realize they think our cams are so built but actually they are more whats street and strip friendly, and there are racers out there using cams so frigging big...650 nothing, 700, 750 lift, 800.....special pistons and blocks and mega bucks with flow numbers to the moon and fire breathing ethanol puking meth snorting NOS sucking monster with tunnel rams through the hood...LOL

Reaching 500 rwhp with stock cubes can be done yet you have to be aggressive with the cam choice and tune and then ...well numbers are just numbers getting all out cam just for high HP numbers may leave you weak in low torque or other things that are nice to have...like some vacuum......

My first engine I waited checking out what everyone chose for cams some went stupid big with like a gs6x or something like that cam and its PTV was so damn close its was worry some really with its lift so high on a stock pistons/head engine, the TSP 235/239 cam had some high lift on the intake and was beating out the night fury with the .639/.623 lift and its long duration and 112 LSA I was happy with it dyno tuned with just my 13 with electric power steering and NPP exhaust a CAI, SP headers, HFC tr6ix plugs dyno tuned on a Mustang dyno ,I made the most I could see unless someone had lousy dyno operator on a non load bearing,( DYNOJET) pump their ego for the simple bolt ons and cam

...and anyway I will show a dyno of that engine, now I go more for torque and easier on the drive train and BTW so does TSP as they stepped down the intake lift of the 235/239 cam as it took .675 springs to run that cam and the higher the lift the stiffer the spring ......the more brittle.... Still though its a awesome cam, now I am just running a stage three bumped up a little from commotion as I went for milder and built torque curve until someday I can do some small bore ls7 heads and intake and 102...etc

Anyway I eventually crapped the bed on first engine due to forgetting to use my brain as months later after a severe 5 to 1 shift trying repeatedly with MY paper weight stock POS shifter to hit third when a ass monkey in a econo turn box finally got out of a hog line where he had a van breathing on his ass to pull directly in front of me while I was supposed to be passing not checking the water spots on his/her rear bumper.... anyway fuggin gave them the finger after doing a hole shot to the front of the van I followed for too long with all the kings of the road in the fast lane being a line for miles and miles.....

Engine screaming after burning runner with a fishtail at 80 mph yup...me and the wife just swore for a few miles..anyway that trauma form that missed down shift ate the life of my springs at a butt billions RPM and bent like all the pushrods barely but the damn engine sounded strong for months until a slight tick like a exhaust leak..( was the first spring breaking), and within a day...after doing the autoparts scan making it home form the tire store checking headers.....TINK.....

DAMN was just going to tear into it too SOB, but hey it happens.... so that's my story and its a warning to buy a MGW shifter to those with a POS stocker that likes to hit the gates and does not really have a strong return spring....nothing like trying to engine brake and hitting the gate 3 times at 80 mph only to finally get it in the wrong gate because it wont go as it hits the wrong place...mechanical over rev......

Anyway numbers are for smucks, I know theres a guy or two posting over 500 on their dyno sheets that wont measure up on the mustang I use but hey WTF.... and close enough is good enough, as your chasing a number not true power which a lot for a heavy turd is torque..... You want 500 you should think about the most common mods done with them; trailing arms and toes, ls7/2 dogbone dampener, katech chain, high volume pump, better trunnions...... BTW I use the best tuner around here I can find with a loyalty rating off the roof and waiting list the former electrical engineer does fine by me with tommy wong of Wongs performance engineering.

If you have my engine you would be with a high lift cam definitely over 500 rwhp and torque but I am stroked and tuned great.

that's the TSP cam stock cube, headers HFC, CAI with scoop 13' on a Mustang tuned just right.....its on Tommys facebook page long time ago I am Mark.....and 491 better than night fury numbers...usually 480- now you go all out port the heads, better intake you may pick up just enough to get to 500..... or find a happy dyno operator smoothing things out with butt monkey correction factor trying to get guys to repeat and brag on his shop when the numbers cant be repeated on a mustang...

Of course you can...but like others have said its just a number, how it performs is a different animal. I ve been running 10.9's as of late, my best 10.6, still working on the new suspension setup i have.

Thank You all for the replies. I guess that I need to be more concerned on how I want to use the power, than worrying about reaching a certain number.

I will take my time & research to figure out what I want.

I made 478rwhp with BTR3 cam and ported heads on a Dynojet when I was a manual. I make 420rwhp now on the same dyno with my th400.

Made 486/446 with headers. Tsp cam. vararam cai.. but also this is ls3. I would think itd be easy with maybe throttle body and intake... but like everyone said its just a number... but even if it is id still like to get to 600whp one day lol.. i see turbos in the future when i can save up.
