Barton or MGW is the most liked here.
I personally like the Barton. |

I have tried both Barton and Hurst. Barton has the shortest throw. Barton is a tight fit hurst is slightly sloppy,1/4 inch movement, top of shifter, once in gear.
Hurst has advantage that they are releaseing the pistol grip shifter but in feel I liked the barton better. |

The MGW is a complete shifter replacement, not just the stick. IMO changing just the stick is a band-aid.

My 2 cents... I have the hurst, love the look, and appreciate the name heritage. If I were to do it again though and I will be in spring, I would go with the mgw. Much better shifter all around. My hurst is very notch. Anyone that tells you different has never shifter the mgw back to back with the hurst. Don't go for the name like I did, go with what works.

I may end up doing the same thing! Mine's pretty notchy too, but it was notchy before I changed to the Hurst. I wonder how much is due to the tranny and how much due to the Hurst? The Hurst gives nice short throws but it takes time to get it into gear, especially 2nd and 3rd. Kinda defeats the purpose.

look at the 'parts' that are included with each of the kits....as someone else mentioned...the mgw is a complete replacement of the unit...

Hurst.
GM chose it in the 60's for OEM all the way up until now- 2010 OEM. 50+ years! In 50+ years will Hurst still be around? You can bet on it. Will XYZ shifter company be around to replace or rebuild your worn out shifter bushings? maybe - maybe not. For those of you with notchy transmissions - don't blame the shifter. Plus there is a solution: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100114 If my transmission was notchy - I might opt for the taller (it fits and works well on the Camaros as well as the Challengers) pistol grip: http://www.hurst-shifters.com/NEW-PR...ANIUM_ANODIZED |

Ghost-Rider, thanks for the suggestion but that shift handle is way too high for me! I like shorter shifters. I don't really care for the pistol grip either. I have the standard Hurst shifter with a T-handle. Looks great but don't like the notchy feel and that T-handle gets WAY too hot or cold! Looks like MGW is the way I'll go eventually!
