Skip shift prevents you from going to 2nd

Its pretty annoying when you're in traffic and can shift into the gear you want... You have to stop and think, WTF, them remember the stupid CAGS and settle for 4th and lug the engine.

Its only purpose is to influence EPA mileage estimates for the car.

Do a search on EBay... you can usually find them for around $12 shipped. Installation is simple, buy search the DIY forum to see where the solenoid is and make sure you don't installed it on the reverse lockout by mistake (same type connector).

Example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CAMAR...item3369dda8e5

PS - The resistor only option will work but you won't have the water seals, so you'll eventually have problems when it gets wet. Its well worth the $12 for the water tight connectors - one on the solenoid and one one the wiring harness.

There is a a lock out mechanism that prevents you from shifting when CAGS activates. If you get the light but are able to shift anyways it sounds like your car already has a skip shift eliminator.

1200 KM's so far and I have yet to even see this fabled skip shift... and I've TRIED to get it to come on lol. What is the range of RPM it usually pops up at?

V6 doesn't have skip shift

It's actually a combination of several factors, explained here. None of them are actually RPM related, specifically.

I'm hoping to get my Apex one today in the mail. I've had the car less than 3 weeks and it is annoying when it tries to tell me I can't shift into second. The display seems to lag a second behind when I'm fighting to put it into second and then realize skip shift just came on. Doesn't always happen so I'll have to read up on what conditions cause it to come on. Never is consistent on when it decides to do this, at least not for me.

Yes - get it. I tuned mine out - but same result with the resistor. Every time I saw the message, I felt like the government was telling me: "YOU CAN'T USE SECOND GEAR!"

...and actually that's exactly what CAGS is.

they do it because the administrations have placed environmental laws in to effect that the dealers have to reach a certain mpg increase every year and this was a easy way to do it. Also the set up is there to make it easy to remove. IMO I think that GM set it up for an easy fix.

I'm glad GM designed this in to avoid the gas guzzler tax.

I ordered from APEX and installed it 2 weeks ago (with their special it was like $18 shipped!). WELL worth it for the occasional and minor annoyance it caused.

The conditions that causes it are actually in the manual. I'll post them when I get my car back from the shop. I believe you get the message if you meet both of the following: under 19mph and under 2100rpm.
