Like previously posted, there are two Navy Bases in Jacksonville with NAS Jax being the closest to Middleburg area. St. Johns county definitely has the best schools in the city (just in case you still have little ones). I dont know what kind of job you did in the Army but NAS Jax has a Depot level aircraft repair facility. They hire a lot of military retirees. Also, another thing to consider would be actually living on base. The base housing on Mayport and Jax is privatized. So, retirees are allowed to rent as well. Right now I live ON the beach at NS Mayport and love it! Good luck and PM me if you need anything.

I'm in the exact same situation OP, so I definitely know how you feel. I'm coming from Germany and we are also looking at the Jacksonville area. I'm really looking forward to some sunshine and hoping to meet some people that also enjoy fast cars.
