Detailing Kit Question
Hey all,
I'll be leaving for college in the next 3 weeks and I am lucky enough to be able to bring my silver '11 LT with me. I'll be quite a fair distance from home, so a traditional two bucket wash method is unavailable to me. I am going to college on the coast so I know my car will get dirty every so often. As such, I'm looking to put together a kit of supplies that I can use to keep my car relatively clean without having access to my traditional wash method. Was wondering if anyone can provide insight on a good setup to grab before I head off? I have a few ideas like some sort of Quick-Detailer or Ceramic Detailer (given close proximity to water) and some wheel and tire stuff, but any products or brands anyone can point me towards for more specific direction would be much appreciated. Side question: In close proximity to my campus I do have one of those self-service stall wash stations, but should I even use it? Not sure how good or bad they are for the car. |

Me personally I stay away from those "self service" washes. I'm not too keen on using high pressure on my Camaro. Detailing my Camaro, my kit consists of some good quality microfiber towels, McGuires waterless car was/wax to clean it, works really great, I haven't used soap and water on my Camaro for about 2 years now. And NO scratches anywhere! For detailing I use Chemical guys products, Quick Swipe detail spray, smells like bubble gum, lol, their V07 spray sealant, after the wash, then I use for wax their Blazing Banana spray wax, yes it smells like bananas too! I use those same products on my wheels as well. The tires I use the Mc Guires, then McGuires Hot Shine spray to shine them up. For the interior I use McGuires Gold Class leather cleaner/conditioner, Lucas Slick mist on the dash, and the Chemical Guys Quick Swipe spray on the custom painted and CF trim pieces. That's all I have been using for ever. I'll attach a couple pics for you to see how good my 13 year old Camaro looks.

Your car does look great for being 13 years old! You still have the first set of rims or did you get rid of them for the set you have on now? Either way they both look good on the car!

The color is just RJT (red jewel tintcoat).. Which wheels are you asking about? The first pic, or the second. The first ones are MRR M228's, fronts are 20x10 +23 offset, the rears are 20x11 +43 offset. The last pic are Feradda FR3's, fronts are 20x10.5 +28, the rears are 20x11.5 +30..

You'll need some good plush microfiber towels, Adams has a deal on 8 of their double soft towels for $60, their rinseless wash is also a high quality product, get a gallon to save $$.
You'll also need two 5 gallon buckets, one with a gamma seal lid. That one is for the towels, the other is to put them in when they are dirty. Wash towels with a free/clear detergent, and never put them in the dryer, allow them to air dry, them once they are dry put them back in the bucket with the gamma seal lid to keep them clean until next use. Rinseless wash works really well if you remember one thing, use as little pressure as possible, and flip the towel after each pass. You'll have 8 clean sections to use on each towel. Here's a good video on the process.

These are the products I have used for the last many years, and the Camaro looks great for being 14 years old now and 132k miles and non garage kept, just covered up when it's crappy out! lol.

This stuff is amazing. Super easy to apply and leaves an awesome finish. Personally... - Foam cannon and hand wash - P&S Pearl for wash. - Koch Chemie PW - Use this every couple washes. Just a little (like a capful) in the foam cannon as a rinseless. Let it sit a bit and then dry the car. -3D Wheel Kleen - buy big and dilute. - Hydro Silex for wheel finish, although VRP has been pretty good too. - 3D GLW Clay luber when doing a clay job (with clay mitt) - I buy larger and dilute. - Koch Chemie SO02 - for periodic finishing after clay instead of spray on wax. On the more rare occasion when a full DA polish is merited, Rupes DA Polish ( fine or coarse depending on your need) |
