FYI: Trunk Leak

For the past week we have had tropical downpours here in Florida. My ZL1 sat for three days, and yesterday I had to bail my trunk out. I had to literally bail out about 50 cups of water from the battery area.

This morning I took it in to the dealer, they said I wasn't the first one with the problem. Apparently any Camaros with the brake light in the spoiler is susceptible to this problem. What is happening is the wire harness for the brake light lays across the weather strip along the back edge of the trunk. When the trunk is closed, the wire harness acts like a wick and pulls the water along it and into the trunk.

They said the will need to replace the weather strip and reroute the wire harness in order to fix it.

Just something to keep an eye out for.

They are going to disinfect and clean it first, then replace if necessary. Everything is covered under warranty...

I will keep an eye on this. My radio keeps shorting out and I suspect water near the amp. I have not had a chance to take it in yet but I recently took it to the mountains and it rained a lot and the radio started acting up.

my 2010 had this issue but only after there was some warranty painting done one the trunk deck. I thought I could hear water sloshing and I did when I opened the trunk the battery was in 2 inches of water. it was exactly what you said and to this day they still haven't got it right. everytime I close the trunk on that car I have to be sure the harness is clear of the weather stripping. I even tried cloth taping it up and out of the way.
