Camaro Paint Quality and the EPA

So. People say that the reason why the Camaro has crappy paint quality is because GM must use water based paint, which is less durable than solvent based paint. But, what if I don't buy that argument? The Camaro is built and assembled in Canada, where the EPA has no jurisdiction.

So why did GM skimp on the paint quality?

ONLY a guess, but maybe Canada's "EPA" is even more corrupt/incompetent than ours.

It's not about the paint, it's about the EPA.

The Canadian part has nothing to do with it since the cars are sold in the US. It has to meet EPA requirements in order for them to approve it, hence why automakers try to meet CAFE laws and fuel economy numbers.

So this question couldn't have been posed in the other thread we currently have regarding the paint and why it's so horrible?

If you don't like threads about paint, don't click on the damn thing. I for one am interested in the topic of these BS regulations causing the bad paint.

There's the rub, you really aren't interested in the paint itself. You are more concerned about voicing your opinion on the man instilling regulations that affect your life.

Having better paint on cars would be So worth filling kids lungs with poison and having toxic tap water.

You can thank that librul Richard Nixon!

The EPA has legal jurisdiction over GM due to GM products being sold in the US. Nissan, Ferrari, and every other international brand sold here also have to adhere to EPA standards.

Yep, my Subaru is the same way. When I bought it they went into the whole spiel of trying to sell me the Teflon-based extra protective coating application because of the water-based paint.

Another paint thread from someone who doesn't own a Camaro? OP lists a 4 - Runner, do you own a Camaro?
