Goodyear jumps into Drag Radials

I found this over on LSXTV. If these are going to be anything like the Mickey Thompson Drag Radials, I think Goodyear is going to be onto something. I've used those and got great results for what my car was. Hopefully we'll see these work just as well.

Goodyear To Offer DOT Drag Radial Tires

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not content with being the Official Tire of NASCAR or the only tire the NHRA Professionals are allowed to run, Goodyear is taking a look at the popular DOT Drag Radial cars and plans to offer a radial tire for the market currently dominated by BFG and Mickey Thompson.

For information on tire sizes and pricing, visit the Goodyear Racing Tire website.

Goodyear Racing announced Aug. 18 that the company is testing and ready to begin manufacturing the latest addition to its line of Goodyear Eagle SS DOT radial drag racing tires.

Goodyear recently completed both eighth-mile and quarter-mile tests at South Georgia Motorsports Park and Arizona’s Firebird International Raceway. Goodyear tire engineers worked with 16 Drag Radial cars and drivers testing tires sizes and construction combinations for the DOT drag racing market.

The drivers involved in the tests came from across the radial racing world, from organizations such as the Outlaw Radial Street Car Association, the Outlaw Radial Tire Championship, the National Mustang Racing Association and the Pacific Street Car Association. Its great to see a big name like Goodyear come into the Drag Radial market but we hope they are in it for the duration.

“This is a terrific market, one that has been growing and has room for more growth,” said Carolyn Ashbee, Sales Account Manager for Drag Racing. “The tires will be built at our Innovation Center in Akron, Ohio, and we expect to have them ready for sale by the Fall.”

would be nice if they made something that would fit the camaro.

Everything is 18" or smaller.

These companies should understand the Vette, CTS-V, Camaro..all run big brakes and large rims...the large DR market is untouched essentially (Nitto has the corner on it right now)...a larger diameter DR that performs and is affordable would sell like crazy.

I sent BFG an email and they basically said, hate your luck we don't plan on making drag radials that large.
