Long tube , HFCs and no HFCs, mine is an A6, had the resonator, and boy did it drone. Added j pipes and it cut it back about 80%. Was so loud the neighbors said it was an alarm clock since I worked at 6 am ;o).

Scared a few of the for sure...

So, I went with magna flows 16581

No drone and growl when I get on it...

I'm not one to go hacking on the exhaust of a new car without a plan. Why not just wait till you are ready for headers. It will sound better, you will get a performance gain and you wont end up with drone. Just my $.02

Because it will probably be quite some time before I'm ready to have the car tuned, and I want as aggressive sound as possible until then. Again, I deleted the mufflers on my 2011 the first week and it was great. Based on the feedback here, I may be doing some more research on the NPP, which I don't I have on my 1LE.

The difference has got to be the HFCs!!... I've got them and you don't. Mine is an A6 too..No drone at all. My car sounds great when I get on it, but when I'm idling or just cruising, it's too quiet. It almost sounds stock, but a little deeper. I gotta do something about it. I'm thinking about ditching the resonator.

So if I don't have the NPP exhaust on my 1LE, is it the same as the standard SS exhaust?

Yup...you either have 2 tips or 4...2 tips = basic exhaust

So, all other things held equal, would a muffler delete sound exactly like a fuse-pulled NPP?

I've decided, at least for now, to delete the mufflers!

There is no requirement for mufflers nor appearance nor noise level issue in VA. By inspection that is. However it is illegal to drive on road without them. DUH. There is a requirement that to replace the muffler, it must be the same type as the car came with. For example, if it was dual in, dual out, you can't replace it with 2 singles.

http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp...19VAC30-70-300

For what it's worth, I thought about the same thing and get rid of the mufflers. But I decided on these

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/imm-87522cb

So it would get rid of any high frequency sound and it worked. Only the low throaty rumble remained. The other reason I did it was to bring square tips outside the aero package since the original tips were to far inside to see and they blackened the trim around the openings.

I know it's a little bit of a hike to Hampton Roads but you are welcome to come look at the wife's car anytime. It's her DD, not mine.
